Brumby Box

I've been looking at a Brumby on ebay for sale. The seller says it's a bit of a basher but would be a good restoration job.

The ad says it has a HI/LO range 2wd/4wd selector, I questioned the seller to determine if the box was standard or had he replaced it.
He was clear that the box was a genuine factory fit, the question is did Subaru ever fit such a box to the Brumby?

That is all I have ever seen in a Brumby, a box that is normally in FWD until you lift lever to select 4WD bringing the rears into action and then select between high and low ratio.

It is normal to be 4 speed and sloppy gearshift
