Climate Control Unit not working.
Climate Control Unit not working.
Hi All,
Names Daniel I live in Scone NSW.
I have an issue with my Climate control in my 2003 Liberty RX. It just died about 3 weeks ago. I have checked fuses as well as checked to make sure power is getting to the unit. Everything from what i can see is working fine except the unit. So i ended up buying a second hand one. This worked on the car i got it from but it doesnt work in mine. It is the same unit physically. The numbers on it are slightly out and im not sure if that matters or not. But i cant figure out where to go or what to do from here. A new one is about $2,300 and i cant afford that. Any ideas?
Cheers,
Daniel

PM FROG and send him your VIN as well as the part number of the original unit. This could be a good start to a new unit if that's the issue.DanielB wrote:Any ideas?
Is there anything in the wiring harness that has been changed/tampered with for a new addition to your subi or even had part of the dash apart for whatever reason? - such as the likes of an aftermarket stereo? This could possibly be the reason for the problem.
And welcome to the forum!
Cheers

If you've already obtained a known working unit and that doesn't work either, then I'd say it's likely your original one probably works too - ie, the unit itself is not the problem. Must be something to do with what is feeding it. A power problem most likely. Check all fuses then if you are good with electrics, consult the car's wiring diagram and trace back to make sure all connections are good. Might need an auto-electrician to look at it otherwise.

There are 3 fuses that supply power to the climate control unit. According to the FSM, they are fuse No.2 from the Main Fuse box and No.4 and No.17 Fuse and Relay box. There is no mention of a wiring change in the FSM.
Pins 1, 2 and 3 of the 16pin plug on the back should all have power when the ignition is on. Pin 9 is ground.
Try to enter diagnosis mode.
With the ignition OFF, hold down the AUTO and the FRESH/RECIRC buttons simultaneously and turn the ignition to ON. The display should flash 4 times. If this doesnt happen, either you have a power or ground issue, or the control unit is buggered
