Diesel engine into a L seiries?

Post by yellowsubie » Tue Jul 12, 2011 10:42 am

Would it be possible? say if you got a wrecked outback with the turbo diesel engine and fitted it to an L series. I've been reading and they're about the same size? what mods would have to be done?

you would need everything that comes with the diesel outback, the fuel tank and associated pump, the fuel lines, the drivetrain, the engine, the exhaust system including the dpf (oh what a lovely thing it is) the computer, I would even guess the instrument cluster...

everything they are a completely different kettle of fish and computer chips :)

nah you can do it not hard just time consuming i reckon.

it will be as hard as converting a carby l series to a ej 22 injected. (which of course isn't too bad)

someone will do it one day.

i reckon its a wasted conversion tho.

much rather a H6 or something in there.

theyre also a pretty average motor at the moment, give subaru afew years to get their td motors right.

I think subaru should bring back the brumby and the l series in a modern version :)

I had this thought too, I think a small diesel (turbo possibly) in a Brumby would be absolutely perfect. I think they could easily pump out a new one because it would definitely take away the sales from the proton jumbuck as well as alot of hilux, navara sales

If it was slightly higher as standard it would be the absolute perfect small ute/fourbie

I think the older H6 would be the go ;) it would not just "bolt in" but I wouldn't think it would take too many mods.

mods (altering mounts, bellhousing, wiring) doesnt bother me i just hate cutting into bodies as for a diesel brumby i reckon i might look in to that in the next couple of months

+1 on Subaru bringing back a ute. A new L-series... na, they have the Foz and Outback already but a ute totally. Built on the Forester platform with either an N/A petrol, Petrol Turbo or Turbo Diesel engine/s would be awesome :D

I would love to see someone put a H6 (EZ30) in a Brumby or L-Series. Has anyone done it yet?

By my measurements it will fit as it is a EJ20 with a extra two cylinders on the front, problem is the radiator needs to go somewhere else and it will then be very front heavy as well. all the extra weight is well forward of the front axle.
Am putting a forester drivetrain in a Brumby, does any one know about fitting the forester rear diff as it has female CV joints and the Brumby has male CV joints. any solutions?
Also who is good at doing the wiring/ computer swaps?

Subarino is the man for harness cutting but be prepared to pay as it isnt an easy task

as for the diff if the gearbox is a 4.11 you can get a diff out of a 91-92 auto liberty thats got male stubs if it is a 3.9 you can get one from a MY or L series

HEY wasn't this thread about a diesel engine into an L series

The common rail diesel factory ECU, it is actually a BCM, Body Control Module, will be too complicated to integrate into an older car.

An aftermarket CRDI computer would be the go, but i even know if they exist yet
