brumby blowers
Hi Everyone
I noticed the other day something unusual about the blowers in my Brumby. The upper vent seems to work as I'd expect - the heater control works and air comes out. However, if I direct the air to the footwells or the windscreen, I seem to be unable to get cold air. The heater control makes it hotter but it's never cold (except prior to the engine warming up). The air does go to where it's supposed to so that mechanism seems OK and the heater control does make the air hotter. I noticed that the plastic air ducts behind where the radio is are pretty warm too.
Is this 'normal' or is something going wrong? Seems odd how the upper vents work fine.
Any thoughts? Don't really wanna take the dash out again:???:
Cheers
David

Could be one of two things:
the cable that runs from the temp dial into the engine bay mounted heater core bypass valve thing, possibly snapped or stretched to buggery.
the valve itself may be seized. you can buy these new from subaru fairly cheap. I have one sitting at home so i can get the part number off it tomorrow if you need.
maybe disconnect the cable first by getting someone to turn the dial while you check that it moves in the engine bay. Then the valve by forcing it to move with something large (multigrips etc). If it breaks it probably needed replacing anyway.

I finally got round to checking the valve in the engine bay and I can see that it moves when I adjust the heater control. Still have the same problem - no cold air to windscreen or footwells - and the upper vents still seem to work OK. I still don't understand it. Is it worth replacing the valve incase it's worn inside? Or is it more likely a problem with the actual heater unit?
Thanks
David

The other thing it could be is that the "vent" lever only services the air ducts that face into the occupants - it won't work on the foot or the windscreen settings which could mean that your tap under the bonnet is not closing properly to stop the flow to the heater core in the cabin.
And about the title, i was curious about the content realising that it couldn't have been specifically for a supercharger but just wanted to confirm
Cheers

Thanks for that everyone, and the part numbers too - very helpful. It'll be a couple of weeks before I have time to sort it and I'll PM you about getting the part sometime soonish, frog. I'm hoping it's fairly straight forward to replace?
So sorry about the supercharger confusion - I totally didn't realise!
Thanks again

Is anyone else now thinking about what it would be like?
Or anyone planning to do it?
