"Casper" Has Cancer

Post by Subyroo » Sun Dec 04, 2011 9:58 am

My 03 XS forester has finally succumbed to the aging process and developed the dreaded "C" - cancer (rust), the rust hasn't eaten through any metal yet so I'd like to stop it ASAP.

The rust spots that I have found are under the rubber seal for the cargo bay door, it has been many a long year since I have had to deal with rust, so I need a few pointers as to what is a good product to kill this stuff in it's tracks.

I remember and old rust killer product called Rust Converter or something like that that used to turn the rust back to metal (or so it claimed), is there something like that out there today?

Ranex

this product converts rust to an iron phostphate, which can then be primed and painted over.

It will inhibit the spread of rust but it will not completely stop it.

Thanks Toonga, Google showed up quite a few hits on that too, but I wanted to see what my fellow Subaru enthusiasts used before I visit Bunnings.

Have a look at KBS or POR-15 products they are very similar with KBS being the Oz product.

They have a good rust converter and both have paint the is formulated specifically to go over rusted surfaces and prevent further problems, links to both below.
