SubaCrawler - Brumby with articulation

Post by last celtic warrior » Tue Dec 20, 2011 11:26 pm

I bought an R/C rock crawler a couple of months ago for several reasons...

Leaving it in the back of my Subaru on a scorching hot day destroyed the Hummer style body on it. So time for a DECENT body. Bought a polycarbonate Brumby/Brat shell by Tamiya, painted it up and added some details in hand cut sign vinyl. To mount the body properly I had the make up an extra chassis section, relocate the mody mounts and shorten the wheelbase.

This is how it looks so far...

Wow, I like it. Only a baby when it comes to R/C (still on my HSP thrashbox) what scale would that be? Also, if I may pick your brains further, did the body need to be sourced from overseas or do you think I might find one in AUS?

That looks Neat.
Just bought a Tamiya Brat to do up the same as my Brum. But I realised after I bought it I only needed a pollycarb body as I own a hobby store and have plenty of 1/10 4WD rolling chazies which would probably suit my aplication better.

This is what the unit started out as. It's an HBX Rock Fighter. Fairly well engineered and good quality build, although everything needs adjustment and tuning to make it work smoothly.

The tyres have a foam insert inside them, which I removed. At least the bead locks on these wheels are on both sides of the rims and are metal.

After the body distorted in the heat, I bought this Tamiya Brat/Brumby polycarbonate body from a mob in Japan. The bodies come completely clear and need to be cut out as they have the wheel arches and bottom edge filled in still.

I used genuine Tamiya polycarbonate paint sprayed from the inside, then applied the flat black paint and chrome stripping to the outside. The grill and side vents have gloss black vinyl strips for detail. The badge and 4WD decals are all cut freehand from sign vinyl (too small to be cut reliably on the machine).

I'll put more pics up when the nudge bar, roll bar and tow bar (only for protection at the rear) are in place.
Steve.

Awesome !! love the work

I see they have brought the Brat kit back but not with the original chassis (frog frame) but not bad kit none the less.
