Want anuver Subaru daily - later .

Post by discopotato03 » Tue Mar 27, 2012 9:31 pm

I have till November and thats as long as I want to stay with Ellie RX Turbo .
I would have liked a 99ish Impreza GC8 with an NA EJ25 but it seems here they dont exist . I dunno if any exist as grey imports but I haven't seen one .
It probably wouldn't be the end of the world to build one but I'm getting beyond being bothered for a daily driver .
It occured to me that Libertys grew EJ25s in that era and they would have been the very conservatively styled Series 2s ? They would be a bit bigger and heavier than an Impreza but at least its all there from the factory .
I do have a set of MY2000 REX wheels and brakes so that would be something to throw on to - whatever .

Thoughts ? Cheers A .

That is the perfect excuse to direct your desires - bit like a woman having a spare hanger for a dress, space for some new shoes :D Get an MY2000 WRX !

I've got a MY99 BE Liberty with the SOHC ej25 and its a great car. A bit more room than an impreza, and it can tow anything upto a camper trailer fully loaded. If your gonna stick to NA its a great choice. Runs like its on rails :D

Thats a Gen 3 isn't it ? After my first post I did a bit of searching around and the one I don't mind is the Gen 2 Bilstein Edition RX . Typical isn't it , probably another hard to find model and it has to be a manual - in white too .

I don't really want another turbo car because I don't need the agro in a daily driver . As I mentioned a GC8 with a torquey 2.5 would have been the ticket and much simpler to live with .
I reckon the next best thing , remember size and weight , would possibly be a late Gen 2 Liberty . I think late ones got the higher CR EJ25 and possibly the roller rockers as well .

I'd never be happy with a 2000 Rex and it would have to grow all the twin scroll gear / turbo etc then everything has to be change around it $$$$$$$ . I know ultimately they have suspension geometry issues and they are cop magnets .
Really my main reason for looking at Subarus is the cheapish AWD factor .

Does this mean Ellie will be up for grabs or retired for the odd squirt on a sunday arvo?

Gen 2 are by far a much better looking car (I'm not biased or anything) but along with the early Gen 3's they have a notoriously bad reputation of blowing head gaskets around the 200,000k mark, just something to look out for.

Mine before the hail got to it lol.

Gen2 RX and Heritage are a nice looking car.
The EJ25 DOHC is known for headgaskets failing between the combustion chamber and the cooling jacket.
Gen2 suspension is the same as Impreza and Forester, struts all round.
Gen2 RX sedan weighs 1330kg and has a combined fuel consumption of 8.7l/100km

Gen3 is more modern and has a revised EJ25 SOHC engine that occasionally sprung an external headgasket leak.
Gen3 has a multilink rear suspension setup
Gen3 RX sedan weighs 1390kg and has a combined fuel consumption of 9.2l/100km

I really like the Gen2, but went the Gen3 Outback because it was a little more family friendly

A 2002 GD Impreza weighs in at 1340kg, thanks to a much stronger body than the previous GC model.

Either sold on or used as an organ donor . I'd like to actually see it drive away even if it is worth more as parts .

Do I sense the Vultures beginning to circle ?

I don't know how you could do that! For me it's either use the tasty bits in something else or sell it whole or keep it :???: But that's just me.

Easier to sell it as a running concern , done the strip bit years ago with the old Bluebird . When I advertised its vitals through their website the predators came in thick and fast because the rare bits are , well rare .
When my "altered" sub assemblies are made they are made very easy to fit ie one out one in - hard stuffs all sorted . I throw in all the necessary nuts bolts and any one off brackets . Neither the Bluebird or the L were bodged because I like things done properly read neatly .
