Did you turn the crank over in the right direction?

Does the dizzy spin freely in your hands?

There has to be something that has caused this and to me it seems there may have been some pre-existing damage that's been made worse by something else such as some friction that's not meant to be there.

Yep crank clockwise, dizzy turned anti clockwise, shaft spins freely. I'll ring Steve Rising Sun in the morning and get his opinion.
