manual hill start

hi
I think I read somewhere that the liberty has a thing that helps you
take off when your on a hill.

is this true?
and what year models?

ah yes the subaru hill holder it was available on the "L" series then from 2003 on the impreza forester liberty and outback. it was discontinued for a few years but was reintroduced in 2010 on the subaru range.

The M.Y. Series was the first to receive the hill holder (or AKA Hill Start Assist) and continued all the way through the manual range of the Subarus.

Is your car fitted with a cable or hydraulic clutch?

What year/model is your Liberty?

Ive got it on my 2000 Foz. Seems to work ok to me, never really found it a pain.

I was going on google so I guessed others would chime in with information

and they did

my vortex has the hill holder as well but it has never worked.

Hill Holders are painful if not setup or correctly adjusted, so most people disconnect them. Personally I like them but they require adjustment at every service.

Please refer to the service manual for correct adjustment

The minister of war & finance's 2010 RX Imprezza hatch has it, it is a grand concpet however I can't seem to break away from the good old handbrake starts etc

Why? Whats wrong with them? I've never adjusted mine...yet lol

The Foz (and later models ) have a hydraulic clutch so very little adjustment is required but still needs to be checked at each service. On cable systems like the Liberty (and earlier models) the clutch fork moves (as the clutch wears out) and makes the hill holder cable looser, which in turn, makes the brakes hold on for much longer than needed. It's tricky to setup correctly and really needs to be adjusted just right.
