liberty info?

Post by Subafury » Wed Jun 21, 2006 9:04 pm

im looking for my next car and decided to stick with the subas.
i reckon a lib sedan (maybe wagon) would go down good.
i have just over $4000 for an early 90's model to play with.
any suggestions?
any chances of gettin an rs turbo for this price? are they much more powerful than the normal ej20?-(i think this is the lib engine)
any info would be good.
cheers
matt

The NA motor fitted to those Libertys is the EJ22. Definitely heaps more power with the EJ20G fitted though!!

If there is an RS out there for $4000, don't buy it. Going prices for decent RS's in WA is around the $8000 and upwards mark. If I had the money, I'd go for an NA model first, pick out a nice Rallye model or something and convert to an RS later, but I'm confident with a set of tools so that's got some influence.

Depends ultimately on what you're after in a car. If you want hassle free motoring, buy something stock and leave it that way. Can always leave the sports car for the mid life crisis.

ok cheers guys. thats changed my perspective a bit.
i think ill end up goin for just a stock na sedan, which means it'll prob stay stock coz i dont want to spend too much $ on it. ill just have to find a manual then to make the driving more fun :)

Yeah, many of the GX sedans were AWD. To get an RS I wouldn't spend under $10K.

LOL @ thinking about the words "Nissan" and "sportscar" in the same sentance.

I don't know ......

One of the original Jap sports cars was a Datsun (Nissan) - the 240Z.

Then there is the evergreen Datsun 1600 - what great cars they were.

And I'm pretty sure some Skylines would qualify, also. 8)

Now we have the new 350Z - these are pretty cool, too.

Just please don't mention the 120Y. (I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it)

Cheers,
Willie.

I think most of the WA members know my stance on Dattos..... LOVE 'EM!

Not so much the 1600 wagons though, they were nothing like the sedans. Ugly rear styling and live axle made a mockery of the machine that was the sedan. My dad has owned heaps of 1600's over the years, and luckily for me he felt the need to buy one a couple of years ago and I got to drive it. That cemented it, what a fun little car! Was stock as a rock when he got it, all we did was fit new front seats and a 'dogleg' 5 speed from a Stanza.
120Y's were never meant to be a sports car, that's why they're not.

Indeed - I was talking about the sedan with it's IRS and the unlimited potential that has been realised on modifying these great little cars.

Just a question on the wagons though, Tim. I bam lead to beleive the 2 door wagon version of the 1600 had the IRS, is this true? I knew a guy in Cangerra that had a 4 door, 2 door coupe and a 2 door wagon - I think it was he who told me his wagon had IRS.

As for the photos above, yes I agree. However, that still does not rule out the Skylines, 240Z and 350Z. There's also the odd $200k price difference that comes into the equation.

Any hoot - not much of this has anything to do with subi's original topic .....

Subi id say get a liberty but try and get one with awd, you dont want to but a 2wd and later decide you want a awd conversion as it is not cheap to do(unless you good with tools).Try to find a non modified one out there and if you can find the rallye as someone mentioned it id go for that as there better resale value(from what id heard anyway dont know why). Ive got a 90 lib n/a awd , it was auto but did a manual conversion cost me a bit but i love it. I used an rs turbo gearbox, rear diff, and all the drive shafts and its taken so much abuse and still holds together without a hicup. Also have rs interior and wheels, next is some suspension and brakes and im happy. good luck with it.
