Adapter plates?
Hey guys I'm not up to speed with some mechanical terminology so I thought I'd ask you all lol.
I have read in here about adapter plates to change from 4x140 to a 5 stud or 6. I think there was even I link I checked out from here that took you to a site that made them.
From what i can see there are four bolts that hold a plate that has the studs in it. If you were to take that plate and in turn the studs off, could you not put a new plate on with a different stuff pattern in it? If so, is that what an adapter plate is?

This a long and rocky road you are travelling down.
The studs on the hub can be tapped out and the hubs redrilled most people go for the six stud option.

A company in Queensland did make a conversion kit (not adaptors) but they don't make them any more. their name is censored on the site. there was one for sale just recently on the site showthread.php?t=24911 it may still be available.
Adaptor platers are available but are in every sense "for off road use only" it is a well known fact that if these plates are used on a road car they will void your insurance in event of an accident (good luck trying to get a set engineered)

Your best bet would be to find a set of rims with the stud pattern you have, with the proper offset ... they are rare but out there. other wise the speedys or sunrasias are always available.

Its a strange setup. the 4x140 studs are into the HUB, with the brake disc attached from the axle side. so no, you cant just swap out the stud-plate (Hub) for a 6 or 5 stud.
BUT adapter plates can be made to bolt onto the 4 and hold studs for a 6 or 5.
But i can see why you would be confused, its hard to tell what is hub and what is disc without disassembling one.
