Subi snow shots
We are in the middle of a big snow dump in Tassie at the moment so I went out for a drive today. As my lifted Liberty is out of action due to a dead clutch I had the standard Diesel Forester. With Chains fitted it did a great job, even with snow deep enough that it was almost snow ploughing.
I think one of these with a proper body lift and low range box would be quite capable. Has anyone heard of issues with the traction control playing up when a lift is fitted? By that I mean cross member spacers as well as strut lift. While the dual range would lose the nice tall gearing of the 6 speed the current first gear is no good for steep hills etc.

Diesel Dual Range
I suppose the Torque is up there with the Turbo engines. I have only stripped 2nd on a dual range box behind a turbo engine when towing too heavy a load, otherwise they have held up well with sensible driving. Waiting for someone to retro fit a diesel engine into an early Lib, now that would be an interesting combo.

The EE20 has some 350 Nm of torque at 1800-2400rpm, whereas the EZ30D has only 289 Nm at 400rpm. So that's a LOT more torque than anyone has probably ever put through a D/R before and at lower RPMs too. It would be interesting to see how it held up.
Some early diesel Outbacks here in NZ did use the 5-speed S/R though so if that held up a later D/R with the wider 1st and 2nd gears could be ok. Don't know how well the 1.59 gearset out of an L would do though...

Fair points there, it definately likes to pull from 2K revs onwards. Probably better with an auto that has a setup to lock the centre diff.
