So Subarus arent REAL 4wds hey...

Post by subaduba » Fri Aug 25, 2006 6:38 pm

Recently I went with 7 other vehicles on a trip to Morgan. We found this little nasty climb, and of the 8 vehicles, only my L series (welded rear diff), an old FJ45 short wheelbase, and a 100 series Landcruiser with double diff locks made it up. Two Pajeros, two Prados and a Jackaroo just sat and spun their wheels:

In a situation like that you need either mega wheel travel or a locker or even both. Well done.

haha kickass! I love showing up the bigboys. your title reminded me I need to get another "i wish i was a real 4wd" sticker for my current subaru :)

All the guys I go wheelin' with these days are all lifted and locked so I rarely get to show them up anymore.

Actually, if you notice the front end going up in the air you'll see that I don't have much suspension travel at all. All the traction is from the rear. I actually had to time the power on carefully to keep both rear wheels in contact as best as I could. Even with the rear diff welded it's possible to lose it if you bounce around too much and lose contact. Would love to be able to lock up the front too, but the transmission doesn't allow that I believe. Does anyone know if it is possible in an L?
