To power steer or not?

Post by Brumby Boy » Mon Nov 27, 2006 5:37 pm

Im thinking about putting power steering in my brumby while im doing the ej swap ans i think it might make it better for turning in negotiating tight spots when out wheeling especialy as i will have larger tyres etc. what do you all think?
Thanks,
Ian

when i did my old L series (not sure how much this applies) i used an EJ pump and hoses and the L series rack... these bolted up with minimal modification to the lines.

definantly worth it though

I dummy fit the power steering pump off my ej20t engine to my brumby power steering rack today to see how it would go. The lines dont go straight in as the flair on the lines is different. The thread and size of the connecters is correct and after cutting off the ej20t pump line flairs and re flairing them no worries. Fits nicely.

I've heard bad things about old Subaru power steering racks, also seen plenty with leaks. Is it worth the money if the rack goes bad and you need another? and maybe another in a few months time? Or are they more durable and people just over exaggerate?

The problem is usually worn bushes leading to slop and/or leaking.

Sounds like a good idea. I think I might have to think about P/S. I can't drive at the moment because I've pulled a muscle in my shoulder. :(
