Urgent Alternator issues

Hey,

(apologies for thread in wrong forum)

My My84 ea81 has developed an alternator issue. dash is lit up like a xmas tree so I've put a multi meter on the battery to find the alt is dropping no charge back to the battery.

Thinking the alt has given out, I have put a wrecker one in as of this morning. Still no charge to the battery.

Is there some fix it people know of? I guess it has to be wiring now...

Can I test the alt by taking off the plug off the back and putting the multi on the steel tabs to see if it works?

This car is going to Weipa in less than a week. I am currently in brisbane near Nundah so can access wreckers etc easily. Once in Weipa it becomes a significant and maybe life threatening problem.

Any help will be appreciated.

Is the Alt internal Reg or External? if External that would be next suspect...

Ok,

don't know about the reg; it's on a 84 my (ea81). there doesn't appear to be any regulators on the outside of the alt. Is this where you find them?

Mine went the same way the reg is probably no good you can put a multi meter on the battery to see if it is charging if not buy a new alt i got a secondhand one from the wreckers and it was over charging so i bought a new one.

Turns out the alt. I got from the wrecker was crook too; (dodgy regulator)went and got a reco exchange from mob in Banyo for $140.00

Works fine, so, dramas avoided this time.
