Sound like a WRX as in, intake noise or exhaust noise? Without a turbo you'll never get the intake noise the same and you won't get the BPV/BOV noise without some really ricy fake crud.
Even the old 1.8's can get that exhaust note. Just need the right muffler and exhaust pipe size...

2 to 3 inches, straight through muffler is a start..

but it will never sound like a rex caus u dont have a turbo muffling the sound...youll get the typical b flat type note but not exact

Yeah the distinctive wrx sound comes from the unequal length headers and crossover pipe + the turbo. impossible to get a non turbo to sound the same.

might get it a little close with a 2 1/2" system running a good high flow cat and a good sports muffler (lukey sports) / cannon (x force)
obviosly not the same tho

That's pretty much it in my mind.. Please don't get a 'cannon' muffler.

if you want your car to sound like a rex......GET A REX! noob.

by the way...gen2 rx runs a ej25? if it does, be careful cos it could just sound ricey, speshially if its auto.

Get a recording of a WRX and then loop it on a loud stereo with the windows down! :)

Andrew has the idea... the MAIN factor that distinguishes the engine note between the turbo and non turbo is the uneven length headers.

Putting a rice cannon / straight through exhaust does nothing but make it sound like a warmly tuned VW Beetle. If you really want that WRX note you'll need to start your exhaust system with a set of turbo headers. I don't think you could twist the pipe from the collecter under the crossemember so you'd need to change to a turbo crossmember and bend & extend the up-pipe so it goes back down again.
If you do all that be sure to run a muffler or two as you will have a raspy note particularly on deceleration.

The more even length the headers the more it will sound like a Honda.
