MY and L's - the trivial differences
Thinking about a future EA82 in a Brumby and looking at things and notice some trivial differences between the two models and wonder why they bothered to reverse some things like....
Door lock (DRIVERS) ~ to open an L turn key clockwise as if starting ignition switch wheras the MY is the opposite
Radiators ~ the MY has rubber cushioned pins mounted on the car body fitting to holes in base of radiator whereas the L is the opposite
Ignition coil ~ the MY has it on driver side and the L has it on LHS (close to dizzy)
Battery is on differing sides between the two models
The bonnet stays are on opposite side
The oil filter is also on opposite sides
The engine oil fill point ditto

Yep, as you have said, trivial, but some is logically necessary.steptoe wrote:Thinking about a future EA82 in a Brumby and looking at things and notice some trivial differences between the two models and wonder why they bothered to reverse some things like....

EA81 dizzy driver side, coil drivers side, EA82 dizzy passenger side, coil passenger side.
Alternators both passenger side, makes sense putting the battery near the alternator, shorter run to the starter motor as well.
MY door lock to unlock either side is turn towards the back, so to unlock drivers is counterclockwise, to unlock passenger is clockwise.

I thought this was already covered in another thread?
Since having the brumby I've noticed the door lock difference. The other bits were already known.
Anyone looked at an air cooled VW engine and an EA71 or EA81? Notice anything similar???
The change to the L series was a big change - OHC's, squarer appearance, change in the chassis rails a roomier cabin and no L series "ute" option - the brumby remained (for good reason too).
The 4wd lever changed in the L series to a "push forward" arrangement that then changed back and has remained the same as the MY's "pull up" arrangement.
Thats about all I can think of for now.
Cheers
Bennie

The other difference is the gearbox - yes the L has an extra forward gear but the transfer gear selector is, again, on the other side, the L's selector rod also passes through the back of the gearbox...
Alex, I think you mean central locking with keyless entry, otherwise you still need to use the key to unlock the door...
Cheers

yeah me also might have a bit more of a research on it too..
these are the good and bad bits ive learn:t
Downgrades to the L series
with the radiator- going from dual core to single core. why?
no rear torsion bar for an easy lift.
no digi dash option
Upgrades to the L series from MY
windscreen wipers move a hell of a lot faster haha
control arms stronger
strut tops and suspension stronger
interior light brighter
rx extra bits like rear discs, lsd AWD etc

On Australian delivered L's. I know a vic member (name escapes me atm) that has one in his possession, or did 9 months ago...Subafury wrote:no digi dash option
I agree about the radiator - and another negative about the radiator is the plastic end tanks they added to the L

My poor ute doesn't have half the stuff original but what about the radiator overflow tank!
