You will need a spacer to fit a standard sized stereo.
If your rich I think the Sony (you know, those crappy looking cd players) play at angles like 60degree...

So the xbox doesn't skip over bumps? Thats pretty amazing.

ive always been a little scared of having the ability to play racing games whilst in the drivers seat. I think it could make me an even worse driver.

How would you go about running a touch screen from an xbox (without using linux).

if you want to run an xbox forget about using a touchscreen. you jsut use the standard xbox remote for control and mount the receiver somewhere in the dash.

an xbox in a car will be useful for:
playing audio files
playing video files

and when the cars not moving:
playing audio cds
playing dvds

You will get away with using the DVD drive most of the time but it will skip over bumps.

Since the xbox has TV out you can use a cheaper LCD. non VGA screens can be had for about $150

The big downside with an xbox - even with linux installed on it theres no decent GPS software.

check out xboxmediacenter.com for the BEST media software for xbox. it does everything all in one.

sorry, not true.

the xbox drive works brilliantly whilst driving, playing dvds or audio cds.

i have been running an xbox in my other car for the last 18 months, not once has it skipped a beat.

the other car is running on lowered track spec suspension, 19 inch wheels with 35 series tyres, and, once again i state: not once has it skipped whilst playing a dvd or cd.

cheers

you have probably got lucky and got one of the better dvd drives that a small number of boxes shipped with. I have done alot of these mate, and in my experience they dont like movment. But if it works for you, excellent.

you running a decent power supply or using an inverter? Theres some pretty cool 12V xbox power supplies available but i have never used one

200w sinewave inverter works nicely.

squarewaves are the ones to avoid with incar xbox installs. they run ok with playstations but not the xbox.

Here is a link to a pic of my set up.

http://community.webshots.com/photo/374 ... 5049jLPeya

I cut mine to bits... remade a front mount plate to mount a new pocket in also and moved the stereo to the far right to make room for a phone kit.

I then trimed it with carpet and painted up a 5mm spacer to sit on the front. Worked well.
