BUT, it isn't AWD (is it?) that is the faithfuls bugbear!

I guess Subaru dealers have been quietly taking down the All Wheel Drive signs, removing the wording from stationery, uniform etc :(

Ah, yes, soon realised that after it was pointed out to me at the dealers this morning, tried to delete any evidence of my error, but someone "preserved" it in a quote . Got my little thermostat to block hose found in the warehouse.
There is a marketing attempt to remove the Impreza connection with this XV.

XV , BRZ ....can't keep up with the new releases

Yeah I will try, I reckon though it would go well in sand, probably not rock crawling but sand yes. Good approach, departure and break over angles, not too bad clearance but 2" strut lift would be awesome, decent power with a nice 6 speed box although no low range.

Be a nicer car with one less wheel !!! :-D:-D

I have a few comments a bit left of centre but relevant overall to modern SUV's and car economy stickers.

I've been assured by so many dealers that the economy stickers plastered on windscreens of new cars are accurate. Well bullcrap.

I've owned a Hyundai i30 diesel manual for 3 years. Done 180,000 kms. I would swear by this car because of its reliability and it gets around 5.7 L/100kms . Worst was 6.2 best 5.2. That is country driving cruising freeways at 110kph or back roads at 100kph. The sticker says 4.6 L/100kms. Yeh right. maybe at 70kph cruising and who would?.
Friend of mine I recommended her to buy one and she bought a 4 speed automatic. Her best 6.3 L/100, worst 7.5 . And she's done 250,000kms in 3 years. sticker says- sticker says 6.0

Purchased a VW Tiguan brand new 2009 and did 48,000kms. 6 speed automatic DSG gearbox best economy 7.9 L/100kms worst 9.5. Bloody good for a 1.7 tonne SUV. But never the 7.4 claimed. The CVT Subaru claims 7 L/100kms and I doubt that for the same reasons. Lucky to get under 8.

phew....got that off my chest. But what is economy? But an SUV that gets 7 L/100kms and 2 years later you have to pay $1600 for a windscreen- well??

Now the Subaru SUV. Nice car if I was to want an SUV. Persoanlly like many other drivers I fell into the SUV craze with the tiguan. Then I went to get the Tiguan 60,000km service. The DSG gearbox had a scheduled service too and that bill hit me for $1400. Nice eh. At the time I read a RACV road test of a Subaru diesel 4WD (cant recall the model) But at the end of the test I read the windscreen costs $1695. ouch! The Tiguan was $1400 for a windscreen so I drove it with the crack in it for 12 months and by then the cost dropped down to $400. like, how could that be? someone was making some profit???

I can understand members wanting some originality. Subaru based its foundation on this. As nice enough this car appears to be why hasnt Subaru taken advantage of their reputation.?

Spares.

see http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1419859

a forumite states- My wipers are playing up on my Impreza MY02 and a mechanic's shop I took it to yesterday told me it would cost $700 to order a new one in from Japan.

700 bucks????

this subject is the new BBQ stopper. extreme prices for parts. I found this with the Tiguan also. Subaru arnet alone.

Question is- do the buying public care- most of them NO. But they will!

No offense to Frog, my mate. this is generalising of the market and the industry.

For example: 1 inch higher ride height isnt enough extra height to sway female drivers from wanting to own one. But it will catch the eyes of their husband farmer that needs that extra ground clearance. What about some decent bumpers so this vehicle is to be used for the purpose of AWD or 4WD. It aint cheap replacing them.

I've read a test report at

http://www.caradvice.com.au/142908/2012 ... xv-review/

Apart from what appears to eb a very short rear seat squab made for short legged Japanese the pachage seems sound. Sound for a car that does little else than the Mitsubishi's, Nissans and dozens of other SUV's on the market.

your dead right, there isnt much that makes subaru stand out from the crowd which is its main problem. people brought a subaru because it would do what otheres couldnt or didnt in style.

your also right about economy doesnt just come to fuel but spare parts, which is why i wouldnt buy anything european.

Tony none taken :D

we're all in the same boat Im a consumer too that gets upset with wild claims and wilder parts pricing :D
I try to justify all this to myself - research and development?
misleading the customer I DONT LIKE

how much does this development cost? Millions I dont doubt
manufacturers are constantly trying to be better at fuel economy and save the frogs (yeah yeah I know bad user name)stuff to pacify government bodies who want to be seen as proactive and get votes

the world we live in has its problems and we need to cope
companies need to make profit to survive at all costs - and it is at all cost - can you imagine the cost of developing a "new" engine?
so who pays to keep the shareholders happy - has to be passed on to the buyer or the development wont happen and we wave goodbye to Mr Fuji :( or whoever

Do your research and decide - look at servicing costs and requirements so you dont get a shock when it comes to paying

I had a whinge a few years ago when I was berated for offering $80 brake pads instead of selling $200 genuine parts - I got a little upset and said my piece (actually thought I would loose my job as I got a little emotional about it) whaddya know a few months later (these things take time) woo hoo price reduction on service parts to take us back to competitive

tell all your friends please - cam belt kits , brake pads , solid flywheel conversion kits etc suddenly dropped to somewhere near sellable pricing (makes my job easier)
yes Im here to make a profit and see my dealership(read employer) survive - I like my job sometimes - But I like to sleep at night soundly (admittedly thats just me)

I love the Subies - most models - and thoroughly enjoy being part of the Fuji following - 9 years Ive been in the job and have only owned Subaru since

We all want to retire with a healthy bank balance but how on earth do you justify salaries in the millions - no wait pay RISES in the millions :???:

$1000 windscreens - no sorry I dont get that sh1t and Im in retail - sure supply and demand controls pricing but where the f does it stop!!

Fuji HAS made progress (ALL FOR THE DRIVER) BUT DO YOUR HOMEWORK GUYS
weigh up the pro's and cons - its all agame and some dont play fair, look after number one YOU!

wonder if I will still have a job after this rant

Can you honestly say all the fab you-beaut fancy pants modern SUV's out there today get taken onto so much as a muddy track more than once a year? Of course not, everyone likes the ground clearance because they feel safer and like the big car for the same reason and the luxury of it. I can't tell you how much the SUV craze annoys me, they're everywhere these days and little or none of them get used off road. And they just get bigger and bigger every generation, remember the first Rav 4's? Look at them now nearly up to Landcruiser status. Don't forget the old compared to new Foresters, Subaru are guilty as well :(
I'll stick to my MY thanks

*Edit* oh that might have sounded as if I was having a go at someone  Nah I'm not, just the SUV craze is a part of modern life I dislike intensely, along with iPads and other needless trinkets.
Will it ever end!?

Awesome, plastic intake :( I wonder how long before this goes brittle... And I hope there's a dust cover to go over that fancy little oil catcher below the oil filter, I can see that collecting with crap and being more of a nuisance than a benefit when changing oil.
Matt, you could be right about the ECU too.

Time to go read up about this new fang-dangled FB thingy, is FB for faceb00k?? Maybe a designer is a serious user, better look into that!

Andy, is the rear boot space any good - as in can you pack it well to live out of for a week or two in the bush? I can see some real potential for some lift, remove the plastic side skirts and front/rear bumpers replace with steel/alloy units. Should look the goods. Now for a low range and it should be pretty set.

Will there be a H6 or FB H6 equivalent available in the future? Fuel economy, pfft, us real Aussies just want to know how fast it will go and in what time will it get there

Hehehe... The little MY's and L series's back in the day could have been the very beginnings of the SUV craze, check out what we're doing to them - they look SUV like to me, even though I don't call mine an SUV, but then again, I don't live in the 'burbs and my car sees more offroad action than 90% of all SUV's put together will see in their life time!

Cheers

Needs D/R and some diff locks before I'd take it offroad.. might just handle some gravel roads though
