OK this is what I am thinking, shit I am nervous about this
, I feel much better about working on other ppls cars
I think that the safest option is to prep the engine this weekend for transplant next weekend. IF Diane can do without driving it for a week (and I think that she might on Sunday) then I MIGHT chuck her on blocks (the car not Diane) and start dropping front shafts, sway bar bushes, radius rod and control arm and then the engine last.
All are welcome and if you have seen my tool collection
then it would be advisable to bring yours as well if u do not mind.
All the info re this transplant i will leave on this thread… do not wana be a cut/paste hore 8O
(unless i start a new thread and the place it under the conversion and or trouble shooting section... let hope not).

Why don't we do it all this weekend? I can do an EA81 swap by myself in two hours, with a break or two for drinks. I know the EA82T will be trickier, but there will be plenty of hands and Subaru knowledge in on this one.
A couple of quick questions:
Do you have a trolley jack?
Do you have axle stands?
Do you have an engine crane / block & tackle?

I would like to start prep of the new engine in the morning sometime, however i car will be off the ground in the afternoon... i need to pick up a few minor bits n peices eg, AndrewT's Engine hoist from Subarino and i THINK that Diane needs the car until 13:00ish as they need to get to a b'day party. Once she is off the road though its on.
I might have to call/sms a few of you (or visa versa) with specifics as i am not likely to be on here aqgain 4 the rest of the day.
Oh and you are MORE then welcome Mattims.

OK BIGGEST that’s to Mattims and Tim_81coupe. Mattims helped in the initial phases on Sat arvo – unbolting everything and make sure that the engine is ready to be lifted – Matt we missed the power steering
I noticed it on Sunday morning.
Tim helped remove all the little bits and pieces I needed on the new engine eg. Dis/connecting wiring harnesses, swapping over air conditioning/alternators (long storey) ect.
Unfortunately Tim and I were unable to crack the nut on the pulley to get the timing covers off
I was initially thinking about making (or getting 1 made) a jig that can screw/lock into the holes on the back of the engine where the flywheel bolts in or in the clutch plate holes. The other option and could now be most likely is to send it to someone and let them deal with it 8O not very BYB i know but this could well be the option as I am looking at about $100 to have it all done and then i will have it back by the weekend (which is good as I am at work all week) now all I have to do is figure out a way to get it there… any1 wana lend me their wagon???

This may or may not help but when I undo and do up flywheel bolts, I put a small spanner, around 8mm, that has ring on 1 end and open the other end, and put the ring onto the on of the bottom studs of the engine that goes through the gearbox bell housing, then either put one of the pressure plate bolts back in or use the pressure plate alignment studs with the open end of the spanner.
I try to keep it all as close to the flywheel and engine bellhousing as possible so I don't bend anything.
I've done this with at least 4 flywheel changes and haven't bent or broken anything yet.
Jordan.

To become old and wise, first you must survive being young and dumb.

yer both Tim and self were thinking about firing up the Supercheep compressor and giving the gun a crack but i tell ya she was done up tight... we were not sure that that would have done it... you should have seen the force we were putting on it 8O you were swinging the spanner the correct direction wernt you tim :P

Well at one point we had my T-bar with about a metre of leverage and me pushing on it with all my strength. It still wasn't going to budge.
I understand impact is the better way of undoing things, but I feel it would take some serious workshop gear to undo that bolt. I was pushing the right way, Jaffa, someone else was tightening it up to begin with!!
Apart from this hiccup everything looks fairly straight forward, most of the mixing / matching / swapping has taken place already. We had to swap wiring harnesses, the TPS, the flywheel, the A/C compressor, and a few other bits 'n' pieces. The Jaffamobile will be out on the road before you know it!
And next time it gets dunked and starts to cough, I know what to do. :P :P
