Bought a 2nd hand (obviously) boot from the wreckers that goes around the gear stick and 4WD stick to seal the interior from the exterior in the drive shaft tunnel on the L series under the center console. Like the original one it had tears but not as bad as mine so used fine fishing line to sew the tears up and covered the teared ares with shoe repair glue. Installed and very amazed at the noises that are no longer there. Much quieter. Goes to show that even open screw holes can cause noise to enter the cab.

That must look ridiculous;) Now seeing as I have gold Rays Gramm Lights on my Liberty with standard Subaru chrome wheel nuts it's obvious we should swap:mrgreen:

P.S. Car looks fantastic, love the Blitzen bumper.

Yep, today I registered my 4wd Turbo Vortex for the first time in over 6 months so it was very nice to go for a cruise and admire the groovy 80s digi dash action once again :)

Was inspired by Adelaide's All Jap Day next Sunday and hoping my application to display it is deemed worthy

vortexxt, looks very tidy

I hope she is accepted ;)

I replaced my clutch hydraulic hose the other day. Had the nut on the metal line connection seize but some "Penetrene" soon fixed that...& my frustration lol.

Used a genuine hose ($53) but was disappointed didnt come with copper washers. Got some from a brake & clutch joint.

Fitted a new gear knob, from a 5mt hawk eye impreza to my 1997 sportswagon. The old one looked cheap and crappy.

I also have a leather gear boot and short shifter to put in, which I will do following my license test tomorrow..if I succeed.

Was surprised how much it changed the feel of the shift-the new knobs are about 5x as heavy and weighted differently to the original. It's also a fraction taller. Feels very, very different.

Also...I learned to shift without the clutch. And without grinding. And without revving its tits off. And getting better at rev matching on the down. All as a learner driver! woo! (best keep them out of my drive test though..)

Also completed a level 1 defensive driving course from murcotts. Amazing course! Will be back for the level 2.

All the above improves the subie in one way or another...directly or indirectly..lol.

beware the defensive driving confidence - it's in the media at present, being criticised for young 'uns - accident rate goes up stat wise for those having done it. Same results a few years back on company reps that also did course - gave them too much confidence out there on our crappy roads - stack rate increased too !

Good luck on driving test, still a test ?

Not really. My heavy rigid licence instructor told us that the test for your P's you're now allowed to roll through 3 stop signs!! What happened to the actual stopping?? I seriously don't get it, if you can't stop at a stop sign then you shouldn't be getting your licence, it's that simple. Obviously there's a set failure rate and L platers were dipping below that rate so they "adjusted" the test to bring the failure rate back up above a set percentage...

Best of luck on your licence test though, don't stress before or during the test ;)

Also, the defensive driving course these days (depending on where you go) is not like it used to be back in the day - the one I did was a safe braking course that opened your eyes to how long it took you to pull up and how dangerous it was if you were speeding and you needed to emergency brake or do a sudden lane change. The best thing I've done for my driving so far has been the Heavy Rigid course, it's an eye opener about braking distances, weight of your vehicle and being aware of what's going on around you at all times as well as driving behaviour that saves fuel.

On the topic of what did I do to improve my subi today:

Yep, it doesn't look like much if you don't know what's been done, but I can assure you that this is a huge step forward for Ruby Scoo! Hopefully two weeks from now I'll be out cruising again.

:D

Cheers

Yeah that brumby is awesome - the crossbred brake conversion, while great for braking is also one of the best cosmetic upgrades you can do for the brumby IMO.

Nachaluva, when will we be getting a pic of the new bar fitted? Pedro's got his fitted already!! Can't wait to see them together!

Cheers

Speaking of front bars...

Today I completed a little bit of work on the bullbar's cover, the main sheet of metal I have is just a tad too small so cut the smaller peices today, will pick up a peice cut to size tomorrow.

So I started by mocking up the panels with cardboard, trying to figure out how it would look and fit together:

Image

I then remeasured, traced, measured again and cut the peices with the angle grinder. I've made a bit of a contraption to help keep it straight, I'll take a pic tomorrow when I cut the larger panels.

So after cutting the peices I used an abrasive wheel to remove the surface rust accumulated after too many months in the garage.

Image

The smaller peices cut, sanded, labled:

It's hard to imagine how they'll fit together as I still need to fold them in all the right places and then it'll make a bit more sense. I'll make a thread tomorrow when it's all done.

Cheers,
Owen.

Looking good, bet you're looking forward to getting her mobile again

I'm still waiting for the guy I bought the bar from to replace some light clips that were missing. Then the big thing will be figuring out how to make some mounting brackets

ScubyRoo, looks good. How are you folding the steel?
