Cheers mate,

throwing in the a rebuilt EA81 (work done by forum member "little white ute") I think the specs are on the first page of this thread.

Due to me still being on p plates I couldn't go with the EJ upgrade

Your project is looking very similar to mine...respray and re-engine with EA81. We should compare notes down the track! Very nice!

The rear bumper we managed to acquire, just been painted and sitting in position, required a fair bit of modification but will sit nice and flush when in place. Not sure if the red is a bit over the top but I will let it sit and see if it grows on me.

Any thoughts?

Should sound pretty nice, i have almost the exact same system minus Cat, cause mine is 86... :) and it sounds pretty good, maybe i bit loud for some people, but i needed something decent with the dual ports screaming... Insert evil laugh here..

Looking awesome there James!

What size pipe do you have from the engine to the cat? I'm concerned for you that the exhaust might be too large too early...

Hopefully with the other upgrades you've done it'll all be a very sweet package

Cheers

Cheers lads for the kind words,

What exactly is the concern benny? I went with a 2 1/4 " system the whole way through on the basis of research here as well as other sources including the bloke who did the work. Luckily he had actually made complete custom systems for older suby's a couple of times and in fact introduced us to a bloke who has multiple very nice brumbies...who also very generously gave us the steering extension that we have been chasing for a long time.

After a good chat with the guy who did it he suggested starting it up and if I am not happy with the sound fitment etc I can get it changed including changing mufflers if it is too loud too quiet etc

It helps if I read your comment properly Benny haha, What would you have recommended for the headers? I must admit I haven't measured them yet and from memory it did not look the same size pipe as the cat back section, I will have a look tomorrow to confirm

BB,

I've been told many times over that you can't get much better if at all over the stock Y pipes on the subi's - NA anyway.

If the exhaust is too big you might not have the required "back pressure" which I think is actually mistaken for turbulence as the exhaust gas stumbles into an exhaust pipe that's too large.

This is one of the reason's for doing a cat back system - the other reason is the cost of knocking up another set of extractors on top of the cost of the rest of the exhaust...

If you've gone to a shop that knows subarus and has a fella who's got several sweet EA81's with custom exhausts then you should be right by a mile. Also the good indicator is the fact the guy is willing to swap mufflers etc.

I made my initial comment because I've got a 2 and a 1/4 inch cat back system on my EJ22 - it goes very nicely, not the cleanest note but it's loads better than the bodge job of plumbing the EJ Y pipe into the existing L series exhaust I had after the conversion.

Cheers
