Excelix wrote:Ok good news! traction control done little "if anything" to hamper my efforts today on soft sand and that was with my Jetski on the back, so I am much pleased!
I did get bogged once but that was my fault for stopping, but she got herself out no worries, I do notice the need for low range here and a much better clutch is needed too, again clearance done very well on this vehicle, its an assest the diff clearance. I only got one picture sorry

looks great! glad to hear traction control wasnt to much of an issue

I tend to think the ANCAP system needs an overhaul.
There should be a Crash Rating that tests/rates how well the car protects the occupants from injury in a number of different crash scenarios, and then there should be a Safety Rating, which should test/rate how well the active safety devices like VSC, ABS and things like seatbelt reminders and reversing cameras can help prevent a crash. It would give a better indication of how well you would fare in a serious collision.

The XV does quite well in the physical crash, note the windscreen stays in one piece and the doors dont deform in the front offset crash.

have been reading this thread with great interest. We got our XV 2.0i (orange) just over a month ago. Great vehicle!

Interesting reading your findings with off roading, as I was trying to do some research and so forth before buying this on the off road capability. Of course the dealers said it would do whatever we threw at it but that's cos they are trying to sell the car!

I don't know if I am mad, but I really want to take the XV to Fraser Island. Before you all call me crazy, I just want to go via the bitumen roads up to Inskip Point, get the barge and take it from south Fraser Island up to Eurong, which would involve navigating the choppy sand areas from the barge landings where everyone has torn up the sand and driving 33km on the eastern beach. What do you think, could the XV handle this? I'm not going to even try and take it inland at Fraser because of clearance, etc, but would it get me along the beach or would we get bogged straight away and end up having to be recovered or packing our bags and going straight back?

What sort of equipment would I need in my off road arsenal to make sure I wasn't a liability??

the xv will be fine you will be surprised how good the subaru is! i think as long as you let your tires down, have recovery gear, some maxtracks that you will be fine.
