Good stuff.
Took the MY for a spin into town. Yeh
L series - Took off the exhaust header pipes to head on the L series and applied exhaust sealant. Seems quiter now.
Changed the Transmission fliud, never seen it brown to black before. High time for a change I think. Go the Nulon, you good thing.
Not so good stuff
Trying to find a noisy bearing. It is either an idler pulley bearing, A/C compressor bearing or a bearing in the alternator.
Didnt have time to try to ID the oil leak coming out of the timing belt housing. Was busy trying not to throttle 4 x kids.

MY Wagon, seam sealered some holes, Fitted a front bumper and fitted UHF from Outback.

Beige Brumby. Took it for a drive, Blasted rust from under battery tray and on the chazie under the brake master cyl, Have put primer on it.

Outback, Fitted New UHF and antenna, BLING BLING.

Red brumby, looked at it.

the odo is now up to 269,000 so a total of 9,000 since i brought the car about 15months ago:).
in bad news the gear slop is worse then ever and reverse is basically impossible to get. so i assume its the gear selector bushes that need replacing?:?:

Could be, also if the roll pin gets loose it will make the slop 10x worse. Mine already had the bolt conversion but the nut was loose, I had 150mm of slop each way IN gear!

But because of that the actual bushes were like new.

I was noticing trouble starting and seeming duller performance and poorer fuel economy so I removed each ignition lead, scrubbed the metal contact points with some light sandpaper. Huge difference. It now fires up 5 times sooner.

I now have a little more power going on a bridge from Stockton to Newcastle.

I think I stopped they leak from my powersteering resevoir. Took it apart and there was no o-ring or seal of any kind. Perhaps I lost it when I removed it when I was changing my timing belt.

Booked an appointment to have my speedo recalibrated for 185/70R-14 tyres from 175/70R-13.
Hopefully doesn't cost too much ($350-450, depending on type of speedo cable?)
I need this to get an engineer's cert for my body lift,
but at least a good speedo correction will make cruising around town easier.

Know a guy here in Vic that is building a trike from scratch with Lexus V8.

His engineer is happy with a GPS unit to be used as a speedo??? might save you a lot of cost.

a good gps unit will show you what speed that the car is moving if you get stuck then mark it on the clear cover with liquid paper

The main problem is my body lift that needs certification but the engineer needs to certify everything that doesn't comply.

(but just my speedo in addition to the lift)

If someone could lone me some 13 inch wheels with 175/70R-13 tyres for the day of my engineer's appointment (Sep 20th) then I won't need a speedo correction. Any offers?

Finished painting and cutting back/polishing the roof of the L series.
Would have liked a better finish and more layers of paint but only having an hour or so every other day to work on it and it is my daily driver it was a bit rushed for my liking. Still, it is the best looking panel on the car and I did work out my paint code.

My alternator (or something to do with the recharge system) died on Saturday on my way to work.

So today I pulled the good alternator out of Battlewagon's Touring Wagon and swapped it in for mine.
Hopefully this works. Battlewagon's Touring Wagon's battery was so weak that I couldn't close the windows immediately after the running engine was shut off...
which should mean his alternator was great but his battery buggered.

I had the reverse. I got my L Series home after a 10 minute charge from a jumper cable.

As I removed the alternator from the Touring Wagon
I noticed one of the bolts for the passengerside rocker cover was loose.

I tried tightening as I noticed oil was sprayed around that side of the engine.
It went in a few turns with some difficulty, then broke free again. (Stripped?!?)
Can this be repaired, or is the cylinder head cactus with a stripped rocker cover bolt?
(Perhaps fix the leak with liquid gasket?

the thread if stripped can be repaired but needs engine out, or swap in a new cam box, yer heads safe !

looks like i picked up another brumby. dual headlight model and has a bullbar. this one run but needs a few things like cvs. might get it back on the road or just keep it for spare parts can never have enoigh spare parts

Decided the old girl was feeling a bit sluggish lately on acceleration, decided to check the timing and vacuum hoses. Just about every join and T piece in the 6mm hose that goes from the carbie to the vac advance and manifold leaked a little bit. And some how the timing had advanced itself to 4 degrees BTDC

But only pinged on hard acceleration up a steep hill. So I set it back to 8 degrees, now it pings worse!

In any gear on hard acceleration on hill or flat. Seems to go a bit better apart from that though, weird. Also cleaned all the crud off the contacts in the dizzy cap, cleaned up the rotor etc.

Taking the MY to work tomorrow for the first time in almost a year (not finished the lift kit in the L series yet) BUT I found my original cassette "1982 with a bullet"
Good and suitable for a 1982 car and I really like it
Goona be an excellent driving trip tomorrow.
P.S. I also found Marianne Failfull - A childs adventure and Broken English.
