I live in Pakenham Melbourne, and have just cracked the head on my 97 outback. I need to take it to sum one that is not to far away.

Could sum one please tell me where there is a subi wreckers that would fit an engine (the 2.5 lt one), or a subaru specialist mechanic

Are you sure it's a cracked head?

I'm just in the process of replacing head gaskets on a 97 Outback for a friend. I've have rebuild many EJ25s and never once seen them crack the head. I'd like to think that yours is no different and if yours has overheated then more than likely it's just the gaskets that would have blown. But in saying this, I would ask around for 2 prices, 1 for replacing the head gaskets and 1 for a secondhand engine. I say this because if your engine has overheated then generally the rings get effected and your engine never runs has good as before (this is not all the time tho). You might find a good secondhand one around and take it to a reputable mechanic to fit. Lastly I'd ask the mechanic to check out why it overheated (if this was the case?) and get him to check things like the radiator/thermostat/hoses, etc... I found also that on one car I did, it was the heater core inside, please let's hope that this is not your problem

I think its more likely blown head gasket not cracked...
