EA82T turbo nuts

Post by steptoe » Fri Jun 05, 2009 11:56 am

Subaru manual states to use only Subaru designated nuts to hold down turbo to its up pipe and dump pipe - to only 18 - 25 ft/lbs (there is a warning in itself). These nuts have no spring washer but a flat washer style base with smooth mating face. Are they of a specific metal and can you still buy them new from Subaru?

Yeah big no no tightening the turbo up too much as you can never get then off again. I have used the original onesand have used brass ones as well without any problems of leaking

Thirteen months later I have six newies. Any idea what is so special about these nuts?

They are plated in similar green brown to screws for copper chrome arsenate treated pine,
precious little nuts they are and no rust on them yet!
