Transmission leaks

Post by Spin » Sat Jun 20, 2009 12:55 pm

Hi, I bought a 1984 Brumby cheap that is rust free and the engine is in what appears to be good condition. I notice there is oil on the underside of the transmission and the transmission oil is low, so either gaskets or seals or both need replacing. Can someone please tell me the grade of oil and the amount to put in the transmission? thanks Spin

LS 90 gear oil ,75/ 85w gear oil or 80/90w gear oil is all OK to put in the trans mission and i suspect that most of your oil leak may be coming from the gear selector shaft seal as this is a common problem ,if you are going fix this problem its a good idea to replace the spring pin for the selector shaft as this is usually worn out causing a sloppy gear selector and you have to remove it to replace the seal any way.

OK thanks Mouse, you have just answered a question i just asked in the gearbox section concerning the amount of play in the gearstick. Yes there is a lot of play in the gearstick, so looks like I will need to do that as well.
Will the GB have to be removed to do those jobs? Will be looking at it more closely on the weekend. Spin.
