Project changes focus

Post by hughybabes » Sun Aug 23, 2009 1:39 pm

This links to a full thread in the Engines and Gearbox forum.. . . . . .Briefly, bought a '92 model wagon (unreg and suspected broken timing belt),as my '84 wagon has terminal rust disease. Plan was to swap the twin exhaust port motor into the new wagon......READ ON...
Cleaned all the oil from around motor, replaced timing belt with a "good one" from wrecker. Turned over ok. Completely re assembled and it runs like a dream !! Quiet as ! after initial tappet noise. Its been running for a while, drives very well and no sign of major oil leaks. Just oil accumulation over time.
Current thinking is to keep EA82 and do the simple cheap tricks to give one the simple cheap pleasures !!
Means I have the EA81 twin port motor to move on.
Best way to do this ?? I am after suggestions.
It was reco'd 25k kms ago. It is running beautifully. (It has a dual range gearbox that was fully reco'd at the same time)
It needs someone with a special project....for this special motor.
Maybe someone with a brumby who wants a special power plant !
Hey Brumberty...... You were going to originally power the Jetboat with one of these motors. You know what they can do! This is another project for you. Twin Jet boats.....One subi motor challenges the other. You could bring it into your real estate advertising somehow !!
Hey Steptoe !! This is the motor for you ! Think of a project. You will love the engineering ! You love that sort of stuff. A motor that the Subi engineers designed for a plane but it also turns wheels on the road !!
Any ideas as to where to go next with this ?

Its a hard one to put a price on. I'm thinking of putting it all on Ebay starting at $1500 and see what comes of it. The guy who did the engine reco says he has had people willing to pay $2000 for his similar engine alone but he won't part with it. Honestly, I am feeling my way at this stage.

Thanks for the temptation hugheybabes, but I am thinking of moving away from the EA81 dedication in my rediscovery of EA82 (and new patience) especially since the first EA81 is about 30 years old now!! My white BWumby has a rebuilt EA81 that snorts LPG through an efi throttle body and has a nice idle as of tonight, should last me a while. What I reckon though is your twin port would be well tamed with an AWD EJ box with EA82 5 speed casings perfect for anyone with an MY or Brumby looking for an easy upgrade. [I even looked at an Impreza for sale, prolly coz it was red, but only for a minute]
