Forester in Dakar 2010
Dakar fans will probably have seen this already.....but for the those that haven't.....this is the Forester built to compete in the up-coming Dakar.

Sorry but I hate this form of racing where they pass off cars as being 'production' based. That car is as much a Forester as my ratty old VN commonwhore is a Formula 1 car.
That goes for V8 Supercars too - did you know the position of the mounting points for all the body, engines & suspensions are identical between the Holdens and Fords, as is the wheelbase. And the panels are not even production parts - they are different size and shape to suit the different wheelbase etc.

Sweet! I just hope that our SBS reception holds out to watch it!
The V8 supercars - everything is the same except the engine build and the driver's skills/style. Holden used to run a front end similar to a subi's as they are from the factory design. Holden was always winning at the time when they changed the rules on the front end setup to the double wishbone that they run now which I believe is similar to what ford's factory design is...
I want to see Bathurst be a factory race where holden and ford get their top performing factory vehicle, fit a roll cage, 4 point harness and the safety fuel valve and race like they used to back in the day! That'd be something to see!!
End hijack!
Cheers

Dunno if its classed as production, but it is a forester body at the least...niterida wrote:Sorry but I hate this form of racing where they pass off cars as being 'production' based. That car is as much a Forester as my ratty old VN commonwhore is a Formula 1 car.

prepare to be educated.
the forestor is a race edition its a roll cage with similar body panels bolted on thats all. take a look at the vw dakar or mitsu pajaro nothing like the real deal.
with the v8 supercars they are the same with differnt bodies.
The only thing production is probably the engine with a few minor tweaks like what we do.
and yes we need production racing back

More from pure-off-road.com....
South American Subaru agent Barattero Motorsport Group have been developing a Subaru Forester for the Dakar rally in 2010, with the blessing of STi (Subaru Tecnica International). Officialy named Forester BaraTEC Raid T1 the car is dubbed the Subaru-Elaion. The development of the Rally Dakar vehicle is a joint venture of Indumotora, the Subaru importer, YPF Elaion lubricants (Repsol-YPF, the Spanish oil company) and the Barattero Motorsport Group. The cost for this project is estimated at about 1.8 million $US. The car is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engine with 300 horsepower and 570 Nm of maximum torque. The suspension is developed by the Barattero Motorsport Group, a multi-link design with two shock absorbers, reinforcements on the studs and a maximum travel of 225 mm. Barattero statement: “We kept the Subaru symmetrical system, repeating the same components in each of the wheels. We use the same suspension, same disk brakes (ventilated 295 mm), the same calipers (AP aluminum), the same traction devices and the same tires (235/85 R16).
We did everything simple”. The cars fuel tank capicity has been enlarged to 480 liters, enough to cover 960 kilometers at full speed. The expectation is to cover around 15,000km of testing before the 2010 Dakar event. Argentine Gabriel Pozzo and Japan’s Yoshiu Ikemachi will drive the Subaru-Elaion on the Dakar which takes place from 1-17 January 2010, in Argentina and Chile.
The Barattero selected the Subaru Forester as base model for the development. The Forester has a reputation of robustness and durability. It is unlikely that this vehicle will be any competition for the factory Team of Volkswagen with five Race Touareg or the affords by Team x-Raid and Team Robby Gordon Dakar.

Finally found a shot of the front end. Doesn't look like they've dry sumped it?
Smart that they use the same componants on all corners where they can.
Still can't find out what wheel pattern, uprights or outer CV they've used but it almost looks like 5x114.3?
Ditto on the gearbox and LSDs.

Not sure for how long...we have some ahhh...complications that force us to stay longer. Nothing's ever easy. Definately want to catch up. Been trying to organise it since I arrived....vincentvega wrote:$1.8m and it still has the same front end clearance issues the race ute has!!
how long you in town for Stuart? I would be keen to catch up for a beer (or bourbon in your case..)
The shocks are made by RS&SP. It's an offshoot of the Barattero rally team based in Cordoba, South America. The same mob that developed the Forester.
...more can be found at http://www.rallispec.com/rallyteam_rssp.htm
And before somebody calls me on it, the travel must be limited to 225mm (9") not 200mm.

Id say they'd have the STI 6sp gearbox and R180 rear diff.
Id love to see what engine mods its running. I find it odd that there is 570Nm of torque but only 300Kw of power. That must mean there is a huge bulge of torque in the mid range, so im guessing it has a factory STI sized turbo with less restrictions and more boost, or its a highly tuned EE20 turbo diesel flat four.

Roger that!Roger_roger wrote:well I just hope that they don't have any gearbox problems!
Not 100% sure but AFAIK, there's a cap on HP but not on torque.Suparoo wrote:Id say they'd have the STI 6sp gearbox and R180 rear diff.
