The manual states that a 'camshaft sprocket torque wrench adaptor' is required to apply the correct tension to the timing belts when replacing them however these are rarer than hens teeth to get hold of.

Does anybody have any clever tips on how to apply the correct tension without one of these tools?

Well, DON'T use your treasured torque wrench backwards on these applications or you are said to stuff them, unless it works on left hand threads. Or have I done it wrong before??

I used an old EA82 cam shaft sprocket, fitted two or four M6 bolts with nuts to jam into one on engine , face to face,and a M10 or M12 bolt and nut through centre to drive the tension with a breaker bar and unqualified concerned experience

mmm.. thats a good point. I only have to do the right hand side and that is torqued in an anti-clockwise direction and I recall the torque wrench instructions saying only to use it in a clockwise direction.

Thanks for the tip - may have to nip to a wreckers and try a bit of guess work

Last time I did it I just wound the engine over in the right running direction via the crank pulley bolt and loostened/retorqued the tensioner bolts . If the tensioners move its a step in the right direction .
