In Need Of A Little Help.

Post by troy1988 » Tue Mar 09, 2010 9:31 pm

hello all
i have just invested in a 92 L Series Carby Injected,
now i have a bit of a low budget to spent on this thing but i would like to modify it to get me outta some sticky situations and to begin my 4wding expirences. what are some good and in-expensive tips people can give me to get me started till some funds come in?

thanks for everyones time for reading :)

best thing you can do for 4wding is getting the most appropriate tyres. 2nd hand ones if you're on a budget, but tyres are the difference between getting out of a situation or not. think of what kind of 4wding you plan on doing - mud, sand or combo - then get tyres to suit.

but the cheapest thing you can do - practice 4wding! just take tow straps etc ;)

It is either a carby or injected can't be both.
If you buy mud tyres remember they can be unsuitable for on road as they have little road grip.
buy tyres with a larger tread pattern but not too wide.

There's not much choice in offroad tyres for 13" rims. Buy some 14" rims and taller tyres instead. If you can afford it, get yourself a body lift. These are the 2 main things that will make your L work offroad.

Find some popular 4WD tracks in your town and start playing/trying out the cars limits. Try to have someone else with you and try to stay within mobile phone range until you are confident with the car's ability

Oh and please have your friend take heaps of pictures and post them up :p

If its a 92 model, it will be a carby. 89 was the last year for fuel injected L series models

Maybe for the MPFI turbo as the RS turbo would have filled that slot. I've seen plenty of 1991 model MPFI touring wagons kicking around the traps ;)

Really?

Ive only ever seen 88 and 89 L series models im MPFI and i was told it was because the MPFI Liberty took that section of the market.
