key-less entry and push button start
maybe all the mods that people are doing to the cars now would be good.
They did this and called it a Baja in the USA - it looked awful and the bed was not a useful size either !

What we actually need / want is a all new MK 3 MV / Brumby / Brat - featuring all current useful mod cons, slightly bigger body and cab (note the word slightly) diesel 6 speed, decent off road capabilitys and styling DNA carried forward from the MK2.
I think a 2 seater is fine - but here in Europe we have Peugeot Vans that will sit 3 across the front and they are not that wide really (small / mid size van) and are euro n-cap approved so if the french can do it why the hell can subaru ???
Chunky styling would ensure wild fire sales imo.
Cant wait !

Well guys you've all missed the ideal features of the "new" brumby.

It should not have doors.....and it needs only 3 wheels.

now a 3 wheel drive brumby.....I'm thinking again!!!

Seriously. About 25 years ago advertising magnate John Singleton (his best mate is Jerry Harvey of harvey Norman and John was married to 60 Minutes reporter Liz hayes) was fair dinkum going to import a chinese 4WD thing! Cant find it on Google because the "Great wall" cars saturate it. I rang him when I read a story about his plans and didnt know how well known he was.

Anyway it was very very basic. Top speed about 95kph cruised at 80kph and it was really a type of jeep that the chinese military used. it had a soft top and 4 seats. My point is that I reckon they would have sold many of them. all cars now are optioned and comfortable but that isnt what we aLL want. the mini moke resembled it too. Looking back if the moke was remade and 4WD with reliable mechanics it would be a hit.

Singleton wasnt successful in importing the "thingy" but I reckon the new brumby would be very successful if it slid into the market with vinyl flooring, on the move adjustable suspension, diesel turbo, removal roof that stows away, inbuilt tool box and priced a bit higher than the jumbuck.

and had 3 wheels!

That could have been part of it , lets face it how long did the later shape ones stay in production and how much did vehicle standards change in that time ?
Can you imagine trying to fit ABS/drivers hand bags/ASC etc into the poor old ute . Also the 81 was always going to be an emissions problem and if memory serves me correctly commercial vehicle emissions standards were doing a catch up in the US in the early mid 90's .

If Subaru were to make a new Brumby, it would most likely be a lot like this.

It couldnt be anything older because it wouldnt pass the 5 star ANCAP
Lift this 3 inches, make a steel bull bar with similar nice styling as the front bumper add a roll bar and slightly larger wheel arches. In 6 speed diesel with dif locks front and rear and then tell me where I need to sign.

Ok - I just found this thread, so rather than add clutter here, go & checkout the XV-UTE... :)

I was reading that XV Ute thread and recalled seeing a thread on photochopping.

Thought I'd give it a go and see how the 2013 Outback would look as a ute/Brumby

I think the tail lights need changing. Would've like to add some trimming around the tub too. Maybe some plastic guards.

Hopefully Subaru bring one out in the future. I've always had a soft spot for the utes. I need additional seats unfortunately.

Good effort benster on the ute mock up. Looks good from the back. Pity Subaru made it ugly on the front :)

I have to agree... I don't like the look of pretty much the entire range with the exception of the STI WRX... and even thats not as pretty as earlier models.

At least they got the brz right in the new line up

Dunno that subaru could get away with a ute anymore, i find that the best cars they make are the wagons and in some cases the sedans but in terms of usability the wagons are just so well thought out.

Before i start copping it for that comment heres afew pictures stolen from the internet for everyone to drool over
