Steering wheel on a L series wag

Hey. I was looking at getting a wood grain steering wheel for my 89 L series suby wag, but to be completely honest with you, i dont know where to start.
Any ideas would be swell!

You'll need a universal steering wheel boss kit. This will adapt your Subaru boss to universal mount steering wheels.

Then you can mount any steering wheel that uses this type of mount.

I would not have wood anywhere in the car. especially on the dash or steering wheel.
in the event of a crash wood splinters and can cause severe injuries, and small splinters can be hard for xrays to detect, so can be a medical problem.
steel might go through you but at least it just bends and can be detected with xrays.

yeah, wood does not give the same way even a metal dash will - let a lone a wood tiller

Worrying about the effects of a wooden steering wheel on an L series is really a moot point. If a crash is going to be that severe in an L series I doubt you will be worrying too much about the splinters!

If you like the look of a wood steering wheel why not? Personally I do not think wood suits the look of a 1980s L as much as a nice leather wheel.

Now my 1974 DL Sedan with it's wood Moto-Lita - Perfect!

@ deccas, search for a SAAS boss kit on eBay or the usual suspects such as Supercheap/Repco (they should be able to order it for you). In fact Supercheap also sell an ADR approved wood steering wheel, if you like that sorta thing.

so i will just need a universal boss kit, and then i will be able to use any universal steering wheel?

Another question. How do i go about installing, im thinking professional? what are rough prices etc?

Use an Autotencina boss kit - about $45-80 depending where you go. Then pick the wheel of your choice $25-600+ and will usually be compatible.

Installation is easy - should take a bout 2 beers

use the wheel brace to undo the center nut, loosen off, just a bit, then bash the wheelrim till it comes loose.

rarther than make a new thread, i thought i would bump this!

I have a question to do with lowering, Is there any way of lowering An L series wag maybe like 2". I know its not practical, but yeah? any ideas?
