Fuel comsumption figures for Liberty 98 (2nd gen)
Fuel comsumption figures for Liberty 98 (2nd gen)
Hello,
I have a Liberty from 1998 (2nd gen I think).
Manual , station wagon, 2.5 L engine i think.
I am absolutely appalled by the fuel consumption. I can only do 350km max on a full tank ($50) and this is country driving.
Is this a normal ? How many k's should I expect ?
I'm really not impressed...
Thanks
nano

I'll jump in...
Search the forum for the preferred way to present consumption in lt/100km and start from there.

WTF is with an arbitrary number of kms ? Name one other measurement that uses something like that. There aren't any to my knowledge.
What is wrong with km/l which is just the metric conversion of mpg and a darn sight easier to work out and visualise (for me anyway).

Nice link though
Good example of what regular and proper servicing can do for your car
"lift the lid every Sunday" is what my Dad said was the most important part of "enjoyable" car ownership

Id say maybe 8 or 9 litres per 100 would be roughly what to expect even 10. 12L seems way too high.
If like you said feels like it needs a tune, if its out of tune could be using the wrong amount of fuel so hopefully easy fixed. Also though, depends on how you drive if your stomping the accelerator all the time like most people i know from the country
its not unheard of to be using 12L per 100

12l/100km is what I'd expect around town. Our 2.5T Forester XT does approx that driving around Sydney - mainly short trips. It goes down to approx 8 - 9l/100km on the highway.
The car gets driven quite gently most of the time.

I would expect about 10km/l (oh OK 10l/100km) around town - maybe down to 8 or 9 if you can drive very economically and at most 12km/l (sorry 8l/100km) on the highway.
I used to get 10l/100km around town in my V2 Sti RA powered RS Wagon !!

It's usually the oxygen sensor or AFM, get some contact spray and give the AFM a good blast. I get close to 10k per L out of my STI powered Liberty around town & well over 700kl per tank on a fast country run.
A full tank should be costing you over $70 too as you have a 60L tank, let it run until the low fuel light comes on, you'll have 9L left in the tank so no need to panic & use at least 95 but try it on 98, they love it.
Subi fuel gauges are notoriously bad too.
