firstly look at the two - if fuji meant them to be interchangeable they'd be same plug, and if not the plug will be different.

My thoughts, sounds like a good call. Are the two knock sensors the same make/manufacture? either way its just a tiny voltage generated by a piezo electric transducer, that is effectively what it does/is.

Look at it this way: Are the threads both the same - as in do the both fit into the block correctly? Just because the wiring conn is diff their function and most likely characteristics are the same as far as the ECU is concerned.
Noise generated by an engine that is "pinging" is much the same regardless of SOHC or DOHC or displacement. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong anybody.:)

There is no thread. A bolt goes through the sensor to attach it to the block

You are dead right, knock produces the same frequency in any engine. The knock sensor is a microphone tuned to that specific frequency.

i will try the ej22 one tomorrow ,will post progress on here ,let you know if it works ,,.. the pic that you (suparoo) put up is of a ej22 knock sensor ,the ej25 one has injecter style clip on wire on it ,.but should do same job once i change wire connector ,,hopefully save me some $$ as i do have a couple off 22 ones lying around . and i think even if it dont work ,its not going to do any harm trying (fingers crossed) . thanks for advice .. khanacross

I see, forgive my ignorance as I was mentally picturing the older style sensors, think EA82, VG30, FJ20 and so on. Its been a trying day:)

Like this?

I think the early ones with a pigtail only have one wire, and are grounded through the bolt, but the later ones have 2 wires. Just make sure you dont mix up the signal and ground
