Is it turbo or no?

Sounds like it will be like a new car when you're finished!

Something else you might look at doing is replacing the front balljoints and wheel bearings. You'd be suprised at what a difference this can make.

Those belt prices sound absolutely ridiculous. I work at a competing auto parts store and I bet I can get them and the King Springs a lot cheaper.

I'll send you a PM with contact info if you're interested.

Other than that you seem to have it on track, I've heard very good things about Prestige Sunroofs, also WA Suspensions seem to be the best in WA especially when it comes to Subarus.

I agree with Tim.
The long belt at $51 sounds more the price that Repco would charge for a timing belt. It may be a mistake.
I think that you can trust Tim. I have dealt with him before.

The picture of your Vortex looks like a nice clean car to start with. I think that it will be really good when you finish.

thanks for the replies, The exterior is clean (turtle wax colour cure lol)

the interior isnt so great faded cracked stained and etc

i got a qoute on the clutch today fitted, machining of flywheel and all parts supplied $685 This was from ABS, though I'm thinkngfor now i might just change the thrust bearing, it's really noisy and i've heard that can cause a bit of slipping as well, I also had a reply about the exhaust, full system as described in first post minus high flow cat for $280.

And i had a reply from atw about the rims, they have said the stud pattern is hard to find (which we all know) but can get some blanks drilled, he has asked what size i want, so i'm thinking either 16" or 17" (which is best) as i can get tyres that won't throw my speedo out and as it's my first car i don't want it to be cop bait

Hi Mate
Glad your still perservering with the vortex.
Trust Tim he will find you a better price for those items.
how bad is the clutch slipping and have you adjusted out the free
play. Clutches arent that hard to do in fwd subies if the flywheel
doesnt need skimming then you can do it in a day plus parts.
To go to a 16 or 17 in a mag you will need a 45 or 50 profile to get
close to a normal speedo reading. How bad is the sun roof seal and
is it the outer edge or the roof itself.
Cheers Pete

it's not slipping badly, the biggest thing thats bugging me is the noise from the bearing, i used a tyre size calculator for the rims and it came up as 205/45R16 or 205/40R17 to keep the speedo within 1-2km of what it is now

the sun roof i think it was probably the drainage holes blocked, BUT i siliconed it shut a little while back, so this afternoon when i tried to pull it off to blow out the drainage holes after reading a post abou them i discovered i couldn't get it off :P lol but in saying that i didnt try really hard.

another thing pete does yourvortex have both fan beltson it or are you running with one as well???

if its an NA subaru, you can get the catless header pipes (extractors?) through lukey. see your local carline mufflers. Mine cost $300 fitted.

I'll dig for a part number somewhere.

very different sound (better)

difference wasn't earth shattering, but enough to feel it though. having said that, i did have cracks and fractures in my old header pipes (that also didnt have a cat)

my thumbs are up for it though. :D

Or just get a set of EA81 headers :D

The Lukey ones I have seen are pressure bent, and no better than factory ones.

No cat converter, other than that they're the same.

just older, and more prone to damage. chances are, they'll be fractured, like mine were.

EA81 = EA82 for headers. both are on and the same for headers.

I contacted carline regarding extractors, they toldme it was completely pointless because of the way the boxer engine is, or something like that he said if i take it in there and lift the bonnet he could show me why.

associated tyre wholesale has toldme 16 or 17 rims will be no problem the hardest thing is forme to choose which ones i want, ( and i gotta save enough for them on apprentice wages ) :P

so the plans coming along well

im keen to hear why. sounds like someone who doesnt know what they're talking about.

wheels? don't you have 4X140 stud pattern? Sorry to burst your bubble there, but this is a HUGE limiting factor as to what you can buy for your car, wheelwise. I havent seen anything bigger than a 15inch wheel for a 4x140. Your best bet would be to look into some wheel adaptors if you wish to fit 17s, or anything like that.
