Twin carb questions EA81 p/steer

Hi all,

I'd like to know the following and I know that getting an answer might be difficult:

*Does running Hitachi twin carbs and manifold cause any problems with the factory power assisted steering pump location?
*Would a twin carb engine (with the different valve configuration) have the necessary bits and pieces on the block to bolt on power steering? A/c surely wouldn't be a problem.

I'm hoping to find a twin carb engine to rebuild and use as part of my preservation project - this may take some time and some luck!!

I was once running twin carbs on my my touring wagon and was still running the factory power steer pump on it with no mods..Last one(twin carb engine) i seen many years ago (from memory)was same as any other ea81 as far as power steering locations,,its only a couple of threaded holes in the head for the brackets to bolt onto.same goes for the air con from memory also.

Just looked in the shed and the twin carb engine does have the tapped holes for power steering EA 81 style,but when I fit mine up i will adapt an EA 82 style pump as was used on the EA81 tuebo engines.
look at the buildup by Subie Boys on their EA 81 Turbo wagon to see the Power steer pump style used on the Turbo EA81 much neater than conventionsal EA 81 pump.
This will of course require Fabbing,welding machining etc to work,similar to my alloy adapter to allow fitting of an Ej oiltube cao assembly to an EA 81 as I hate the standard loose leaky EA Oil filler units,apparently that conversion is easier on the EA 82 engine.

Yes the Twin Carb Engine has the mounting holes,but a better option is to adapt EA 82 PS pump similar to what was used on EA 81 Turbo see the Subie Boys wagon Build to see what it looks like

Hey Coxy, you've been quiet. I have found newer condition EA81 oil caps that are tighter when not at full on position and do not leak any more than the PCV tubes etc. A tab attached to top of cap and a retainer of choice prevents cap loss. I fixed my blow by - swapped engines to find same thing - lost another cap, so then a catch can solved all problems, never needed the wire retainer since :)

Those std EA81 power steer components are a bit agricultural aren't they?

Phantom , if you find you need PS bits, I found an idler pulley complete with its mount PM me if needed
