L Series brake booster in Brumby

Post by Backyard_Brumby » Wed Apr 27, 2011 9:50 pm

Hi guys,

Thanks to a very handy new acquaintance I managed to pick up a myriad of parts for the project today. One of which was an L series brake booster, just wondering if anyone has put one in a brumby and how easy it is / is it worth it.

In the brake system am also replacing

Master cylinder
Brake Lines
Rotors & Pads
Rear Shoes

just thought the bigger booster might finish it off nicely as at the moment you would be better off sticking your feet on the ground to slow the car as the brakes are that poor.

L Series booster I had to compare is just too big to go in the space a Brumby / MY has available without any serious surgery.

Have seen later booster in Brumby with some dodgy spacer

This thing was stopping an otherwise standard Brumby braked STi powered beast - 320kW @ 20 psi boost

I think you mean 320hp, because 320kW is roughly 430hp

hmm interesting. It has a "spacer" on the firewall side and has apparently been on a brumby before....it looks like it should be alright, I will have a go when I pick up this new master cylinder. just wondering if it was a known swap...

and is it worth the effort?

I was under the impression that you could use a Liberty brake booster on an MY when going with a crossbred conversion, so why couldnt an L series booster be used?

I couldn't quite get the L series booster to fit. But I did the rest of what you've mentioned (braided lines?) and it was a massive improvement to brake feel.

Here is a pic of a liberty booster in a M.Y. / brumby . We fitted it up , only have to get the shaft to reach the pedal . That the only mod we did.

Image

We have also fitted a L Series booster to a M.Y. wagon . It took alittle more work to get the shaft to reach the pedal . But it fitted.

The Lib seems to 'fit' . You are in Adelaide, lucky for you. Either Paul at Subareck or Steve at Rising Sun

Turns out after all that, when we took the booster out it seems to be the exact same as the standard so I guess it is just the factory one. Now I am thinking about going and hunting down a lib booster though as i really want better braking

rtcb65 Any chance you have a pic or explanation of what you did as your mod for it to reach ?

cheers
