I guess any Brumby tail gate is gonna need an internal strength between the hinges and the stay bracket points at the side to at least withstand an EJ motor and owner standing on it :D
Nice work indeed

Design engineer ?? I thought you were a soap powder king !

Our first born in the flesh !

Post by 1111giles » Wed Jan 11, 2012 10:07 am

Right more progress today, we have the first off (RHS) wing completed.
VERY pleased with the finish and shape we have.
Although we will need to make minor adjustments to some of the fixing tabs landing lengths to ensure the best fit possible.
Here are some images to get your teeth into.

Now the first fitting.....

Post by 1111giles » Wed Jan 11, 2012 10:25 am

Ok so it was dark and wet and it was only a quick look see operation, but the initial assesment is good - infact very good. Apologies for the picture quality though.
The "model" car is a MY series GLF-5 1600 Sedan bought partly for this purpose. (also the quad lamp slam panel for Hatchy - then to be sold for restro as very rare here)

Lookng very good.

Might make my life easier when I get to the finishing stage with my car and have to widen the arches to fit the WRX gear under it. Probably 18months - 2 years away from that though ;)

Weight comparison ?

Nice pics of the dark there Giles.

If you guys didn't chuck so much salt around your cars wouldn't rust anywhere near as much :)

Amazing, just brilliant :) Looks like they fit amazingly well. I see no mounting holes in that first off, will they be put in or does the customer do that?
Will it ever end!?

Nice pics of the dark there Giles. Humm and only 5pm too :(

If we didnt chuck the salt about then we would be bending parts due to slippy slide accidents !

Thanks !
The fixing holes are actually clearly marked on the mould from the original (new & genuine) Subaru fender and will need to be drilled out (easy peasy to do) - remember this is the first off so we are going through the curve so to speak.
A bit hard to see on the images though I appreciate.
The good thing is that if we needed to we could always fill any holes and re drill :D

New day light images of fenders / fit.

Post by 1111giles » Thu Jan 12, 2012 9:22 am

Ok Scooby folks,
Managed to literally 'throw' the first sample fender onto the modelling car today, and spent virtually no time whatsoever fitting !
I am very pleased with the fit and finish of the product so far !
I have loaded up a number of images so you can see just how good the line fit is.
Shortly details will be posted as to how you guys in Oz can order these parts, please stay with me on this as we need to tie up details before we post ! Hope you understand. :D

Couldn't have said it any better than this!

I bet you'd have a good market in the US if the price and postage costs are reasonable!

Gees thanks guys - your kind comments are making me blush !

More info hopefully over the weekend. Considering fitting a pair to Hatchy instead of steel ones !
And yes I do need to sell quantity - as the moulds were not for free !

Have you thought of white gelcoat instaed of grey? White is cheaper plus wont show through light paint colours as much...just my opinion ;)
