Vortex love VS GL5

There is a lot of Vortex love on the forum of late.

I had always wanted a one, in like a poo brown colour, lifted to take on club trips to show the Ls and later the Foresters up.

Don't get me wrong, any positive attention to our Subaru heritage is a good thing...but, I would suggest the the GL5 is being overlooked in the current vortex-love-fest.

For example, this tidy unit - link here

A teaser...

I love the GL5 or any of the coupe variants, Ive seen a silver one down here about a year ago and I should've left a note on the windscreen telling them if they ever wanted to sell get in touch.

It would've hade a quite upgrade to an EJ20 or EJ22 with you guessed it an AWD carby and dizzy setup. It may still happen. :)

Well i had a GLF 82.
It was a bloody nice car to have. it was great on gas, i got 650 km per tank on P/ ulp.
I only sold it to buy the vortex. I had always wanted both. I love the simplicity of the ea 81 i could tune it with my eyes closed. The handling was great, i only modified the camber from 1/2 deg pos to to 1 deg neg. and tuned the car for unleaded from leaded.
The vortex was a love affair from the first time i sat in a new one at a subaru dealer.
Finally i got the chance to buy a vortex but had to sell the coupe to do it.
It was the bittersweet moment having to give up one for the other.
To this day i still miss having the coupe, but i dont regret buying the vortex.
Heres some photos of my babies lol.
the coupe is a 82.
The two vortexs are a 85 auto.
its slow and low and a joy to cruise long distances in.
The turbo is a 87 ax7. spider manifold. single range all wheel drive.
its a bloody quick gokart.

I do love the 2 door GLs. Wouldn't mind one after i sell my outback. Might make a good electric conversion, if i ever have enough money to do it.

Jules,

That GL5 lives in scary park down near Britton rd I think. See it down that area all the time on my way to work. Would be good if someone could save it, don't think it see's a lot of love.

Cheers,
Dave.

The rear wing came with the car on the auto tex. both cars handle really well the Auto is almost like a go kart. It is very low to the ground like a porche, you would struggle to put a coke can under the sills. She is a great cruiser and sounds like a WRX.
The Turbo has thick varible ratio king springs, they dont give in the corners, my cooper S had more lean than this lol.
Cheers Pete

there you go again - frustration coming on thick and fast. fidget, fidget....

2coupedup - nice to see someone else has more than one Subaru at a time, and guess the missus has a choice of what to drive, the coupe, or the coupe or the coupe, or .....

I feel better :)

For me, it's not just the GL5 - the MY coupes in general with a good tidy up look awesome. They don't have quite the same soft spot as the Brumby but they're up there.

Its a shame that Subaru didn't bring the L series coupe over here - I'd have one of them in the driveway in a flash! I'm partial to the L's overall...

Cheers

It was something like this or the GSR that blew past me on the Hume many years ago at 90 miles an hour that impressed me !
Fill those 'ugly's guards and maybe they look sweet too?
