ej25 vortex, questions

so i've got off my ass and bolted my ej25 back together and its quite obvious that the cross member will need to be dropped to stop the engine fouling the hood.
so has anyone else who wasnt looking for lift, spaced the cross member down? how much is needed?
i also split the front case off a ej autobox and attached it to the ej25 so i can atleast have the engine running while i look for my manual box.
i'll add some photos tomorrow but im searching for to complete it,
-manual ej gearbox (cant remember ratio but the same as touring L series)
-ej normal headers
-radiator that will fit ( does a normal L series fit? )

Nightrider is selling a 5speed AWD box with DCCD but its has 4.44 ratio.

Is that a turbo ej25?
When Paul and Jules fitted the EJ22 to Julians vortex they drop the crossmember by 2 inch. As the car is getting a 2 inch lift kit anway.

I think one inch or maybe an inch and a half would be enough.

I remember Ganon was having some issues, i think...

L series radiators are a little bit smaller i think.

Post up pics and show the mod that you are doing to the car. I'm very interested as my next build will be the vortex:)

You should be able to get away with an inch. when I put my EJ22 into Jetcar we dropped the crossmember by 2 inches, so it matched the rest of the lift kit when it eventually goes in.

Just cut the bonnet and put a power bulge on it.......

4.44 diffs are easy to get hold of. My box behind an EJ25 in a Vortex would make it go like a scalded cat !!

nah i dont want to modify any visual aspect of the car, since im going to be sticking with 13's it will go like..... well lets just say not geared for the freeway :)
im holding off for a box out a liberty so i can just retain cable clutch and save a few $$$.
guyph i guess my vortex will be much like your L series just not lifted and mine is just a ej25d non turbo. i have a ej radiator but theres no way in hell it will fit in the pointy nose, i had a vortex one but it went in a L that spike bought (i retained the 4wd rear end for the vortex though).

The other option is to find a radiator from an XT6 vortex and modify it or the mounting holes on your vortex so it fits.

Fortex radiators are about 10mm longer core than L Series but the bugger is the locating pins are way different to L, done just on porpoise so not to mistake one for the other. Vort radiators also have the angled brackets at the top mount that L and MY do not have

oh and pictures as promised...
today started with a trip to upullit which netted me these and an idea for the front suspension :)

then home to install the intake and some piping

and thisis why the bonnet needs spacing, or crossmember dropped

this is a forester strut with raised spring next to my future strut

oh and this is what i did so i can start it while waiting on a manual, just the front of a autobox

and this is what she is if you cant remember....

has any one used a single peice tail shaft in the L? im thinking of getting a MY tail shaft for my vortex to simplify the install. either way i guess something will need shortening etc.

yep, i've got a single piece tailshaft in my tex with an ej20 conversion. Having issues at the moment with clearance to the ej handbrake fastening bolts on the tunnel. Not sure where the tailshaft came from as it was in there when i bought the car. Has potential though, just need to find another way to fasten the cables behind the lever running to the rear wheels.

well today i picked up a 91 awd liberty sedan, with heratige badging. the cars in ok shape with only d/side sill panel damage. i bought it for the gearbox/fly wheel.
there is a obvious lack of most emision gear compaired to the later ej22's. im thinking of throwing the engine/box in together and if something goes pop make a frankenmotor out of my bits :)

well its still got 2 months rego, so i got time to test the engine. then its vortex time!!!
