Brake Fluid question ?

Post by Brumby91 » Sun Dec 04, 2011 2:10 pm

I have just done a rear disc conversion on the Brumby . I bought some Nulon brake fluid for it to bleed the brakes which is Super DOT 4!
The cap on the master cylinder says " Use only DOT3" !

Am I still able to use it?

only use one type of fluid as each "DOT" is different, so don't mix dot 3 with dot 4 as they have different chemical components. If you are going to use "dot 4" get enough so you can flush the old fluid out of the system.

You'll be fine to use the dot 4, the reason it says to use only dot 3 is that dot 4 wasn't around back in the day when your subi was built...

Dot 4, I've got no idea what the difference is. And Jules, you'll be very happy to know that I'm pretty sure I've mixed the two... Doesn't matter as she'll be getting a flush very soon, maybe a new master cylinder and if I can work out what I need/find the money some extended braided brake lines will be added as well.

Some didn't think these disc rears were all that much better, but may have compared excellent drum rear to used disc rear end just before conversion - they are fantastic aren't they.

Agreed with Bennie DOT3 was likely best spec in 1980's !
