Cheaper to buy just a new inner CV (double offset joint) and fit it to your shaft

The inner Cv joint has failed and need to be replaced. Replacing the inner is a lot easier and would be cheaper BUT consider that the outer won't hold much longer and it would be better in the long run to replace the whole shaft and only do the job once. I did replace only an inner once only to have to do the outer 2weeks later...., Ended costing the same but twice the pain of removing and installing it. Last time i got a CV was about $180. might be cheaper. Shop around. Call 93302760, they are quite good i heard but i have no idea if they are expensive. Or as Andrewt normally recommends, try Alan cv joint in Subiaco i think. Btw, where Andrew??? didn't see a post from him for a while....

Better off buying a good second hand one, 20min to change the whole thing and $100-$150 all up.

Yeah only buy second had if you are selling the car soon. Especially major parts like cv jonts as you have no idea how long the shaft will last unless the part has a history.

The two "new" aftermarket shafts I put on mine lasted exactly 1 day offroad before the boots split on each one, I'd rather have a pair of good genuine Subaru 2nd hand ones than some crap Taiwanese worthless junk but I guess Impreza's are a bit newer than L's & Brumby's so better stuff to chose from.

If you plan to use the car only to go to work and back i guess ebay whorthless taiwanese copies would be worth it BUT if you plan to go off road, Buy proper stuff from the shops i told you about. I bought two new L series shafts from them when i had the ea82 gearbox, they lasted a year and a half, will all the ken block style driving i did on a 3inch lifted car and when i sold them the boot still didn't have a slight sign of stress or wear. Those were from alan's cv joint.
