Hey guys, i've done a quick search on this topic, and know there are some posts on it, but i need more info.

I live in sydney, and the 04 outback 3.0 I just bought got an error 99 cd player problem on its second use.

I want to replace the unit anyway so i can plug in my ipod. I see you can get kits from japan parts (107-209-006) to replace the AC and the edge fascia around the stereo part (though what they call silver looks dark grey, not silver like whats in there now)

Anyone that can walk me through what to do would be appreciated. I have no electronics knowledge so would end up needing someone to install for me. Any ideas in Sydney?

Thanks!

Maybe make a few more threads in the workshop/stereo section.

That should do it.

My best friend did this change on his 05 Outback and it looks mint but how he did it I have NFI. If required, I can send him an email and ask him what he did (I'm away and not able to call him) but my other thought was for you to ask your local stereo installer. Go in to their store and pick out a stereo and ask them for a written quote on having it installed. You never know, they may list the items that they will use on the quote???

A quick look shows nobody posts in that section. An answer within a couple of months isnt really good enough. Coming to the most populated section seemed the better option. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I have contacted a stereo installer, and they suggested I get the parts and then come to them. My problem now is trying to order the right part, so it would be great if you could contact your friend, and maybe even give me his email. I promise not to ask him too many questions!

On the japan parts site, the show one pic of the part - and say its silver. It looks dark grey to me, even black, so im unsure if im going to get the right part.... Or even if you can get the right part....
