hey
so I have my 1991 L Series, bit of a lift.
i need/want this car gone and have no idea what it is worth
it's engine is pretty loud and the tranny likes to play up
anyone want it?! body is in mint shape, interior is pretty good minus a tear on the drivers side seat
0450013677 text me! no reasonable offer refused

either that or tell me how to fix the engine!

I would take it!
I have subaruitis.
Decided I won't an old wagon as well.
Unfortunately I don't have the money at the moment.
Due to my brumby.
Got my eye on my teachers old liberty. Haha
Not sure what it's worth but I think you should easily get 2k for it.

noise is probably hydraulic lifters.
many causes
oil pump leak
old oil left varnish on lifters and they have seized

Well, you've got pretty much all the good bits on it for an L series - scorpion rims for starters, that's a huge point scorer in my book - there will be members drooling over those rims as we type...

If you really want to "fix" that engine check out this link ;) Worked a treat in mine

And you will "love" your L series more so that you've ever before.

What's happening with the gearbox, popping out of gear randomly? It could be a couple of things - the spring pressure on the dedent balls that provide the pressure to "lock" the gear in place after you let go of the gear lever.
It could also be sloppy shifter bushes that makes it difficult to select the correct gear every time. And the last thing it could be is the lift kit interfering with the gear selector through the angles it has to work on now.

Here's my L for reference too - you should keep yours ;)

And welcome to the forum.

Cheers

How much for those wheels?
If I can't afford the car I at least want them. Haha
I have two sets of 13's I could trade.

Your absolutely right tweety!

haha didn't expect this many replies, whoa.
yeah i took it to a shop once and they said it's the lifters. the mechanic also said it's pretty common with my engine.
as for the tranny, it just takes awhile to get going. like i have to park on a slight incline at work and when i leave for the day, i have to rev..rev..reeeeeeev and then it decides to engage and go into gear and getter rolling.
don't get me wrong, i like the car, but it's not what i need or require at this time.

i am located on the Gold Coast for anyone that is interested in it, sure we can work something out. i'd be up for trades :P

what will you give me? haha

i'm pretty tempted to just park it somewhere so i don't have to deal with it.
im' mechanically inclined and i love working on cars, but i'm on a working visa and i just can't be bothered buying tools and all that rubbish

thanks for the welcome guys

Yeah scorpions have the correct offset for subarus.
Sunraisier/ desert rats have a bigger offset.

i don't think i'd be willing to part it out quite just yet bud, i'd rather sell it all in one go then part it out.

is it just my car, or are these cars notoriously GUTLESS?
god i hate this car

haha, bad choice of words here

they are gutless, but with the stock size wheels on there they are not that bad. put big wheels on and they aren't great because it becomes over geared.
Quite a few of us have converted to the newer EJ series engines (the liberty/ impreza/forester engines) and these give the old cars a bit more get up :-D

they are surprisingly capable little cars if you give them a chance and dont try and drive them like a monster truck.

haha yeah i guess it is a poor choice of words, my bad.
i am just over it, i don't need something this...chunky. i'd prefer to have something smooth and comfortable for longer drivers, so this is a bit over the top in that regard.
yeah i'm not going to fix it, drive it til she dies i suppose.

you need a visa to work in QLD now ? That is one way to slow down the Victorians :D
Maybe all you need are some standard road tyres to bring the gearing back to normal rather than offload a car you know and love ......

Try replacing the front crank seal they suck air in there and often cause the tick of death on L series EA82 engines as air and hydraulic lifters do not play well together',Easy job

yer not sure how the front crank seal would play any part in that but as mentioned before the leaking oil pump will.
