If you could check it out in person have the two rear wheels jacked up, I'm sure the same LSD test works for the lockers too - turn one wheel and both turn in the same direction. If it's not an LSD or locker the other wheel will turn in the other direction.

That's one cheap locker - and it comes with a "free" L series

Cheers

Turns out it's not a Detroit Locker (surprise!). Does have a bullbar, rear tyre carrier, 14" rims and electric windows if anyone needs them.

Was he advertising it as a detroit unknowingly or just in the hope it would boost the sale (i.e being a douche). Or is it an LSD and he just got confused. :D

He bought the car under the impression it had a locker. He removed the cover and emailed me a pic of an open diff.

How about just welding the diff? Same thing really, and a pot load cheaper if you do it yourself which you would anyway, I don't think any company would weld one up for you!

Air locker is the way to go.
Except for it's going to cost a shitload.

Yes it is - if you're AWD. I'm keen for one, and I'm super keen for my AWD gearbox to be sorted, I'm looking forward to the day that it's in my car!

But the issue is that there's no bolt in air locker option at the moment. It could still be a very long way off if it happens at all. That said I'm hoping Taza comes through with is unit he's designing.

Until then, those that have the welded diff will have to continue to remove one shaft for onroad driving. I'm sure this practise will continue once an air locker is available.

Plate type LSD is the only real solution if you can't find an R160 Detroit Locker. I have 4 of them and can't imagine why you'd go offroad without one. They actually work too, not like genuine Toyota rubbish which don't work from new so i replace them with Detroit Lockers (have installed four of these to date).

How much for a detroit locker?
Would an r160 fit in a brumby?

More than you could afford!

Cam, it does - you've already got one. As do all 4wd MYs, L series and AWD libertys, Imprezas (some WRX's have the R180), foresters etc etc - you get the picture anyway!

Haha, yeah a lot of money I'm guessing, just seeing how many years of slavery it will take for one.
I thought the brumby had an r180 diff. Hmm apparently not.
