99 evo 3 club spec questions...

Post by Dubcrazy » Wed Sep 26, 2012 9:07 pm

just wondering whats the main difference in the engine over a standard wrx? i have a club spec that has the same turbo as the sti (not sure if thats standard) and its started useing oil and blowing smoke. when we investigated its the head gasket. I've had a quote to fix and i understand that it mite blow out if hidden problems are found.

I have a front cut from a 2000 wrx sitting in the shed and i am tempted with just swoping the engines.

any ideas and suggestions??

thanks

I have a club spec evo 5.

The early evo's are the same engine, with about 5 more kw.

I wouldn't be doing just a headgasket.

Either rebuild your engine and/or possibly the turbo, or fit another healthy engine.
Regards

Gary ;)

Same here, the banjo fittings that supply oil to the turbo could be stuffed.

Or pull the dump pipe off and see how much free play is in the turbine shaft, if its burning oil, there will be oil in the exhaust housing

thanks fellas, i will check the turbo but the mechanic did a test on the radiator and it showed signs of something (it turned the fluid he used a different colour)

the 2000 front cut i have has a good engine as i brought it to transplant it into a beetle and it only has 98 tho on it.

i'll check it all first when i am home and go from there, i was just worried about swoping the engine out if it wasn't upto the standard of the original..

once again cheers..
