Hi and Welcome,

Yes the EA82T auto box will bolt straight up to an EA82 as one just comes with a turbo and the other doesn't. The only thing you'll need to be 100% sure about is the diff ratios, front must match the back if you're planning on driving it in 4WD.

Yeah Jas, counting the crown wheel teeth would be the best way if you haven't got the box in yet. If the gearbox is already in the car, then you could try driving slowly (without pressing the accelerator) and turning sharply one way (with the 4WD engaged) in a carpark and see if car wants to stop. If it doesn't then your ratios are correct BUT if it does slow down and stop, then you have the wrong ratio. Check what the sticker on the rear diff says and change it over. They will be either 3.7 or 3.9

Very true nncoolg, for the 4EAT box I would count the teeth but from my understanding of these 4EAT, they only came out in the XT4 (in Australia) and they were all 3.9 ratio.

True the 4eat's are all 3.9 and will also be larger than the 3 speed ea auto. If the turbo auto ea box is really an original turbo box it will also have larger stub axles and it will be 3.7 ratio only. The US got a 3.9 in their early turbo wagons. To solve the issue with the larger stub axles you can buy L series Efi CVS or swap the front stubs but I can't remember if you can swap the stubs by popping them out or weather you need to swap the front diff centre out. If the box came out of a car and you can get the CVS from it.

I hope this helps
