Woa didn't know I had an audience!

Sorry to disappoint, but it won't be this month (most likely) I kinda made a mistake in getting it rebuilt first, before the car

I feel a bit uncomfortable leaving it there untouched for so long. I was thinking of putting it in the bullet as is with the stock exhaust after I get my runaround going (that will be sooner than I thought now...wink wink) just to break the engine in, since I was forced to re-register the bullet a couple of weeks back. Might as well make use of it. So watch this space...kinda

Probably will disappoint Phizinza as well, I promised him a ride before the end of the year

Well then it's settled; the engine is going in the un-restored bullet for the break in...hopefully the old gearbox is up to the job

Since you won't be flogging it during the run in period I'm sure it'll be fine! If it does let go it's a good excuse for the L series gearbox swap

You'll be pleased to know I removed the old engine today in a personal record slow time of 2.5 hours from running to sitting on the floor...well it has been more than 12 months since I did this last

And I've got all the inlet and exhaust gaskets on the way, just need to find 4 carbie gaskets without buying 2 full rebuild kits. Was happy to find the larger diameter Y pipe will bolt straight up to the smaller rear exhaust section using the same gaskets, and I can adapt the smaller cylinder head-exhaust gaskets to fit quite happily. Using the smaller stock exhaust will probably restrict the engine a little, but I have nothing else and it's only for the break in anyway.

Trying to install the new engine now, and the familiar frustration of trying to line the clutch up has driven me insane for the last 90 minutes...I've come back sore and beaten. My clutch alignment tool must be out my a fraction of a mm; doesn't work. Leaving the friction plate loose and tightening up the bolts through the starter hole; doesn't work. I think I got it in one time out of a dozen and when I reached for the nuts and bolts to hold it in it popped out again and the clutch plate fell down

There must be a trick to this...

Yeah there is - don't have the clutch plate that loose and patience is the key.

Believe it or not, you are no Robinson Crusoe on this task, you go away, teach the neighbours kids new swear words, come back, fresh approach, mutter sweet nothings, change the angle of the dangle a tad, bolts within reach this time and whoompa, she slides in gently. And you wonder what went wrong the previous 90 minutes

Haha you're right Jonno I went away, had a rest and a cuppa and went out there to finish the job. It's in! Only a matter of time but however many times I've put an engine in it never gets easier...time to invest in a decent clutch alignment tool I think.

Now she's in it's just a matter of bolting up the stuff that goes on top and deciding which crossover pipe and hoses to use. Also, this engine has an EGR valve whereas the old engine doesn't (this car never had one) so could I simply remove it and bolt a blanking plate over the hole?

Getting it in and getting it running will be 2 completely different things, hopefully there's nothing too complicated to sort out in regards to emissions stuff.
