No more AWD :(

Hey guys i am wondering if anyone can help i have lost awd in my 89 legacy gt ive only got fwd i was told it my be a fuse but my problem is nothing is in english because it is an import can anyone help?

The fuse is only for autos and it puts it into FWD if you put the fuse in. If the fuse 'blows' it will become AWD. So your problem is likely to be elsewhere.

Hmm that may be my peoblem i played with fuses the other day when i had no radio once again no english lol

Get yourself an owners manual and/or factory service manual for an Australian delivered RS Liberty, its 99% identical to the Japanese Legacy

when i lost AWD it was my one of my rear drive shafts not in the diff fully, quick and easy check

Its not the fuse what my best option on checking the diff is there and easier way than dropping it?

How are you diagnosing that you have no awd?

Aussie RS never came out auto but the auto in the EJ22 model works in the same way. From my understanding of the 4EAT transmission, they are really only front wheel drive until the TCU picks up differences between the front wheel speed and the rear wheel speed, then engages only it notices the change. Putting the fuse (in the holder just behind the RHF strut tower) in, stops this from happening.

If the car is not going into AWD then my guess would be it's AWD clutch pack is toast and needs to be replaced.

i tested mine mainly on a gravel road or put some flex on the car on dirt to loose traction and see if the rear gets power. thats how i did mine and was effective,

its very obvious to tell you dont have AWD, i could get the front wheels to spin on wet bitumen when i lost AWD while not even close now that i have it back.

just pop under the rear and tug on the drive shafts to make sure they are in the diff.

What do you mean ? Did you check the fuse was OK and put it back in ? If so then that makes it FWD - you have to pull the fuse OUT to make it AWD.

That's weird thunder039, when I lost the AWD in the automatic, I've found the car doesn't want to drive properly, like you've lost 80% of your power and you need to put the foot all the way down on the pedal to make the car drive.

I've heard others that lose all their power when one of the back wheels come off the ground whilst 4WDing.

Definitely worth checking the rear shafts. If they pop out they may need the ring clip replaced.

the front wheels are mechanically linked to the box in an MPT 4EAT. if you lose drive to the front wheels you have well and truly broken something..

the guys saying they lose all power with a rear wheel in the air dont understand how their driveline works. its not possible

I completely toasted my MPT clutches. has the same effect a putting the FWD fuse in

Hey guys i can tell its FWD if i put my foot down it just spins like mad when it was AWD i had no wheel spin ever even in the rain only a tiny slip if you really gave it to it.
the rear drive shafts seem fine if i turn both rear wheels the tailshaft spins
